Kobo (seemed to have) messed up again!
I bought two ebooks from them yesterday at .99 a piece and now even though both are listed as 'purchased' only one of them is downloadable even though both are listed as being readable on ereaders. Sigh. I had hoped that one was just taking longer to appear than the other did. After ordering them I went to church and then on to a friend's funeral service. I laid down for a nap after I got back and when I checked back the same thing was still showing. Hopefully Kobo will fix the problem quickly.

I think this simply means that the one you can't download is a kepub book, rather than a regular ePub. Nobody's "messed up".
I believe you can get the book using the Windows Kobo reading app. |

In Kobo's mind eReaders equals Kobo brand eReaders not eReaders in general, which will read kePub's. You can check if there is a DRM-ePub, DRM-free ePub or PDF download available before purchase by adding the sample to your library and seeing if it mentions a download option (a pain I know). Otherwise you'll need to use the Kobo Desktop to download the book and certain tools to go from there if you're wanting an ePub.

@crich70 if it's a kepub then you've got the plugin to deal with it.

I did send them an email. With my luck it will be as some say. I wish they would mark such books as they are so people did know what they were buying.

crich, there's really no problem here. Just install the Kobo desktop app and you're done. It's important to realise that the Kobo store is NOT a "generic" ebook store; it's a store for people with Kobo reading devices or apps, just as the Kindle Store is for people with Kindle readers or apps. Your claim that Kobo have "messed up" is wholly without foundation.

Since Kobo took on Sony's customer base a while back, I'm not so sure that that's true.

They are able to be viewed in ereaders: Kobo ereaders. You wouldn't expect to be able to view them on a Kindle, for example, would you?

Not without converting 1st certainly. And I'm sure I'm not the only person here who does that. Sometimes Kobo has the book cheaper even without coupon I imagine.

Absolutely. I buy books from Kobo myself and read them on my Kindle. The point I was trying to make is that buying a kepub and converting it to a regular ePub is the same process as buying an ePub and converting it to Kindle format. Same tools involved in both processes. You simply use the Kobo desktop app to download the kepub rather than the web site.
