Collections on kindle paperwhite

Ok so I have all my books downloaded from the cloud, and set into collections. I did this a while ago. Now, my collections will have the correct number of books listed in it, but when I open the collection, some or even all are missing from the collection. I don't know what is going on, anyone have a clue on what the deal is?

Are you sure you downloaded the books in question and not just a file associated with them somehow? Or that they did download properly? I'm guessing that you didn't download them all in one big clump as that would be impossible, but also are you sure they are in the right format? I know that you can't read an epub on the Kindle for example.

Also, depending on how many books you actually downloaded, your pw could still be indexing. If that is the case, it could delay the collections updating to the servers. In the future, it might be best to make multiple collections changes from the cloud, that way you will not have to worry about the indexing. As a rule of thumb I usually give my pw2 a lot of time for updates to be uploaded before expecting them all to be available to other devices.

That's easy to check. From the home screen, tap "Search", make sure the search scope is set to "All Text", and enter a nonsense search string. If it comes back and says "xxx items not yet indexed", then the situation is as you describe.

Thanks for this, Harry. I saw this suggestion before, and was wondering if any nonsense string would work, or if the person had been giving us a particular "Code" phrase. You know, like "plugh" or "xyzzy" (in some ancient computer games). Good to know that it's any nonsense phrase, cuz that's how I had remembered the hint.

"Nebuchadnezzar" is a nice word to search for, too!

It works equally well with a real word

. The only benefit of using a random string is that the results page isn't cluttered up with actual results.

You need to make you have have the Search set to All Text and not just My Items though.

They were alll on there for months, then suddenly a lot of them have dissapeared. Not a matter of indexing or having them on a different set of collections.

Is the problem with the books, or the collections? Ie do you see all the books themselves correctly listed in author/title view?

They show in author/title view, just not collection view, even though the collection number shows the correct number of books in the collections. The books just dont show when I open the collection.
