Does the Screen Hue Disappear?
Well, I wish I had taken pictures of my Voyage. But, when I first got it, the uneven coloring was very noticeable (pinkish to yellowish) at some intermediate lighting setting. If you turned the light all the way up, it was a very even screen.
My initial reaction was to return the device. Then I got lazy. Last night I was reading on it and I realized that the screen looked very good - I played around with the light and saw no lack of uniformity at any setting. I remember going through something similar with the first paperwhite. The screen was really bad on the first day, but then it seemed to get better over time - although some degree of uneven coloring persisted. Could it be that some "burn-in" is necessary? Some glue that needs proper drying? Humidity accumulated during the shipping process (my voyage was left on my porch on a rainy day while I was at work...). Anyone else observe changes over time? |

Been using mine every night, and wil continue until my H20 arrives. The screen has not gotten any better, although I'm hoping it will. Amazon said there will be a firmware update to improve it. I think it's a lighting issue and I doubt time alone will fix it.

If a "fix" is coming there's a problem, whether lighting or firmware. ETA - re: Humidity - I always allow my devices time to reach ambient temperature and let any humidity also dissipate. |

Well, thanks for your replies.
I am not sure why my experience seems to be unique - but I checked my screen in every which way possible and it is now very uniform. I covered the middle with a piece of paper, looked at it upside-down and sideways and at all sorts of different light intensity - and I can spot no lack of uniformity. I am sure my mind is NOT playing tricks on me. And I am fairly certain there were some issues with the screen on the first day, although, in retrospective, I wish I had taken pics. |

vxf, how long have you had yours? I've had mine just since Tuesday, and there is some pinking at the top 15% or so of my screen. It's barely noticeable when I use it in a lit room, but I see it at night in my dark bedroom at a low light setting, which is when I do the majority of my reading.
I have been contemplating sending it back, but want to give it a fair shake. If there's a possibility that it will dissipate in a week or so, I'd be happy to wait. |

I think I got it on the 21st or 22nd. I really noticed it the first two days. Then I was out of town and I took my old PW2. I have been back since Saturday and haven't really noticed any problems with the screen since. My personal suggestion would be to give it a shot, but, on the other side, my experience seems to be an isolated one, as I can't find anyone with similar observations.

I got my second Voyage today. The first one had a really nice screen that I liked a lot, but after about 4 days of use, I started getting all kinds of application errors and things were locking up too. (One person on this site said the problem might've been a corrupted book file... another person asked me if I had loaded any active content, which I had. Apparently, active content screws up your Voyage.)
Yeah, so, anyway, my second Voyage doesn't have nearly as nice a screen. It's not as white, not as contrasty, and has more of the tonal (smudgey) stuff going on that everybody is complaining about. It just doesn't look as sharp! I'll have to decide if I can live with it... hopefully it'll get better with time, the way yours did! |

CS. I contacted Amazon with my screen issue, CS said they'd refund but not offer a replacement for that, as it was considered "normal", but there was software update coming out soon to address this (which begs the question: if it's normal, why does it need a software update?) . It sounds like it really depends on who you talk to with regard to what company line you may or many not hear.

I'm sticking with my unit. I was reading in bed last night with my Kobo Aura HD, which I always thought had a perfectly even screen, and I noticed that it has the same pinkish/orange hue near the top of the screen that my Voyage has. I've had the thing for a year or so, and yesterday was the first time I noticed it.
I'm going to stop looking for flaws now. |
