Old newtimer here again

Hey I popped up here awhile ago in great excitement having bought an Aura H. Unfortunaly the first Aubo HD was faulty and I had to send it back. The second seemed ok, but I have run into a couple of annoying problems. So forgive me if I seem, what I am, a noob in these matters. Now I have had trouble with the SD card I popped into the Aura, several times it has told me on startup that it does not recognize the card and that I need to format it in FAT32. However if I only clicked that away everything worked as usual. But is it worth getting a faster San Disk which are apparently more compatible to the Aura HD? The card fyi is a Kingston 32G class 4.

The second problem is using calibre transferrring books to Kobo. Whenever I try to transfer larger amount of books (mainy fanfic, hence many files) I run into the problem that sooner or later the transfer stops and it's stuck following some advice on these forums I closed calibre and that seemed to do the trick but how can I avoid that since there is always the risk of corrupting the dbase.

However, the major problem I am having with the Aura and which is making me want to chuck it out the window is that frequently when I'm reading a book whenever i tap to turn the page, the damned device turns a page *back* another tap and another page is turned back. And sometimes it turns back pages without me doing anything! Auuurgh is there anyone here who has had a similar problem and how did they solve them?

An another itty bitty irritation. Where are my bookmarks?!?! I bookmark a book so I can go back and read it much later but the only bookmark I can ever find is when I've just created it and it's in a tile on the home page soon to be gone, where?

Ugh, I like the Aura but this is starting to make me despair.

The format message is something I see frequently when inserting the card. It seems to happen when I fumble a little inserting the card. But, as it does recognise the card, I just ignore it.

I don't do it very often, but I have transferred over 500 books in one session from calibre to my Glo. What does calibre do when this happens? Does it just stop, or is there an error message displayed?

What firmware are you using? This sounds like a common problem two or three versions ago. I'm not exactly sure when it was fixed, but I haven't heard of any problems in 3.12.0.

Annotations are store in the database on the device. But, I don't think that is what you want to know. I think you actually want to know how to view them later. There are three ways:

- The current book tile on the home screen has the count of bookmarks, annotations and saved highlights. Pressing that displays the annotations list.
- Within the book, when the bottom menu bar is displayed, tap the three lines on the right end. This displays a menu with "Annotations" as an item.
- In the library list, find the book and long press on it. This displays a menu with "Annotations" as an item.

Is that what you want?

I will admit I've not seen the page turn backwards bug on 3.12 but I still do see the missed page turn a lot

Frankly I've given up hope of that one being fixed.

Yeah I've done that, as well as removed and reformated the card in fat32, works if I also set factory reset,it works with no annoying messages at least for a brief time.

It get stucks, no errror message but when it's been transferring a batch of mabye 200 books for hours hours without anything changing and it informs me that you can't disrupt a job which is communicating with the device. So the only solution is shutting down calibre, and since it refuses to be removed from the computer I have to shut the computer down completely and then pull the usb cable

I am running 3.12.0 but the problem is very persistent and very annnoying. And no, I just want a list of the books (or even the bookmarks) I've bookmarked. On the Sony you had a separate column or folder or something which stored all your bookmarks. I like to bookmark book and page so I can find it easily even some time has passed and it is certainly not on the front page with the tiles. I just find the lack of easy access to bookmarks a curious oversight by the Kobo developers and was hoping someone had figured out solution.

Great thanks for taking the time to reply and help me with some possible solution.

Just curious as to why you have to restart your device so often? Many of us find it far, far easier just to let the device sleep and never power off.

Before you give up on your AuraHD, give KOreader a try. Have calibre send to a hidden folder on your AuraHD, and avoid Kobo processing.

Luck;

I haven't seen that, but I rarely send more than 10 books at a time. The only reason I have is after a factory reset. And those times it completed with no problems.

The question I suppose is whether there is a problem communicating with the device or a problem with a set of books. There are some database checking while sending the books, but it only does an update if you are sending a book that is already on the device. You could try using "Save to disk" and point to the device. If that fails, it suggests the connection to the device is failing for some reason.

No, there is no automatic way of finding books that have bookmarks. You could manually add them to collection. Also, any book you open and have not finished, has the place you are up to bookmarked. In the library list, these books show a percent read on the right hand side. You can filter the lists by tapping the "Show" at the top right and selecting one of the options. Selecting "Reading" will show these books.

Well it's mostly when I have to factory reset it. And then it turns itself off and reboots from time to time no idea why. I do wonder if I replace the Kingston micro card with a speedier San Disk if that would help make it a bit less sluggish and cut down on the bugs. I will admit I put my entire librarly on the micro card, so much easier for transport and also less hassle when I have to do a factory reset.

Are you converting books to kepub on the fly while transferring them to the reader? (using the KoboTouchExtended plugin for Calibre) If so, the transferring will get stuck when Calibre encounters a book that isn't in epub format, say a pdf or a mobi file. It 's probably good practice to transfer books in batches, based on format type.

Nope, always convert to kepub before beginning transfer. I tend to do it in batches, first all epubs, then all kepubs, then pdf and so on and so forth. Sigh, the issue of the mysteriously turning back pages does abate a bit when closing the Aura and then opening it again, but it is damned irritating.
