Ssh/telnet, optware, python?

Hello fellow ereaders! I'm an Asus EEE Note owner (not technically part of the ereader family but more of a wacom notetaking device with ereading functions) and I'm making the switch to a Kobo Aura HD because of the better resolution for comic reading.

While I'm waiting for the Aura HD to get delivered I have a few questions:

Can I enable telnet/ssh?

Is optware available to install packages like wget, links, 7zip and python?

I've seen some threads on some of these question but I don't know if they apply to the aura HD, running python is appealing to me because I use manga downloading scripts on my EEE Note to fetch manga chapters straight to the device, and would love to do the same on the Kobo.

Thanks in advance

telnet is described in the wiki.

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kobo...Telnet_.26_FTP

Sadly the wiki isn't well sorted, That change doesn't apply to the Wifi only, but also works with Aura and Aura HD (only tested Aura myself).

Standard advice. If you don't like how the Wiki is layed out, change it!

Koreader, an alternative reader software, works on the AuraHD and has OPDS implemented so you can download directly to your device over the WiFi. Something like Stanza, you browse online "Catalogs" and select what to download. A book/chapter downloaded can be made available to any other readers on the device, as well as be read using KOreader.

If you search through this forum you will find mention of using Python, as well as where people have changed the whole OS.

Luck;
Ken
