T2 -- suddenly discharging rapidly
All of the sudden my T2 is (or was) discharging in less than a day with WiFi turned off. Battery life had been very good -- it still takes three or four hours to charge, so I think the battery is strong. I do think I did put a new book on it before this started (book now deleted). I've also hit the reset button. Is there anything else I should look at? Or should I just wait to see if it discharges rapidly again?

If it happens again it probably means that your battery has died. I understand that replacing the battery on the T2 is pretty straightforward, though, should you wish to do so.

But, you're right, if it is the battery, it looks to be a pretty straightforward replacement. So far, since deleting the book and resetting, it appears to be holding a charge again. I'll keep a close eye on it and report back. |

The rapid discharge problem has happened a few times with my PRST1. Deleting a recently downloaded book fixed the problem.

That appears to be the issue here, too. So far so good since I removed the last book -- the battery is still up and fully charged. I wonder what causes the problem -- maybe something like the indexing issue with a Kindle Touch? (Although that didn't seem to be nearly as drastic.)

I have no idea what causes the problem - I'm not all that tech savvy. However, I've seen "delete recent book in case it's bad" suggested on Mobileread as a possible solution to various problems. Maybe someone who knows more than I will come along and explain

It looks like the new book was the problem. Ever since I deleted it and hit the reset button (I'm guessing hitting the reset button wasn't necessary) I haven't had an issue. The battery is back to its old strong self. It makes me a little leary of loading another book converted from Mobi to EPub in Calibre on it, however.

My books are purchased epubs or Overdrive library epubs, not converted or messed with in any way, and I still had the discharge issue, so it's probably not your fault! |

Battery discharging occurs when the eReader needs more power. It may be that the book somehow activates the WLAN (maybe it's not true, but if it is it may be a feature eg when an ePub has a live link to outside world like amazon.com). It may be that it contains a recurrent formatting error and the CPU spends energy in solving the formatting (more likely, there are cases when wrongly formatted books blocked the Sonies). Humidity inside can probably also not be that easily dismissed.
