They're all pretty good
I've been using my Kindle 4 (Black), Kindle Touch, NST and NST w/ Glowlight and Sony T2 ... and you know, they're all pretty good. I wonder if, sometimes, we get a little too caught up in these comparisons? (And I'm not discounting Kindle vs EPub, Amazon's infrastructure, etc., I'm talking about the Readers themselves.)

You're right, they probably all do the basics pretty well. I think why people debated the details is it's something you're going to spend a lot of hours with, and while I could "live with" something on a laptop say, I want it exactly right on a reader just because of the time spent on it. With a paper book you really have no options, but by the same token you'll be moving on to the next one relatively soon, whereas with a reader you're still on it when you move to the next one and small irritations could add up.

That's true. But I think sometimes we tend to exaggerate the issues. I know I have in the past (and probably will in the future).

I was very happy with my iRiver Story basic. The battery had deteriorated so much that I relaced it with a Kobo Aura HD.
Could I go back and loose the screen size, storage, interface and light? No. Did I feel the need to upgrade when the iRiver was still running? No... eBook readers miss the compelling reasons to upgrade most computer hardware has. The basic function (reading) is really fleshed out already. |

I totally agree with Rcentros. I'm a compulsive reader who lives in Mexico and reads in English. I spent 13 years reading what I could find. I kept watching ereaders and waiting for a common format. I finally gave up and decided to buy an ereader. I honestly had no interest in the device. My interest was what would deliver books for me to read in Mexico, in English, simply. The answer was, for me, Kindle. The different devices didn't interest me. They all work. Some have a little advantage and some a little disadvantage but I have no doubt I could read on all of them once I had a book on the device.
I'm old and spend too much time on my computer now. I could be reading. I looked at Calibre and didn't want to mess with it. I can get all the books I want, economically, from Amazon so I use a Kindle. I've had the Kindle Keyboard, Kindle Basic, and now the Kindle Paperwhite. I have the Kindle Voyage on pre-order but I have no doubt it will not provide a better "reading experience" than my Paperwhite. The debates between fans of the various devices are not particularly enlightening but they're not particularly honest and often focus on insignificant details. |

They're all pretty good, but none of them are perfect.
Which is why I keep buying new ones. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it; forget about me wanting shiny new electronic thingies. A monster was created when my parents gave me a brand-new, portable, reel-to-reel tape deck when I was 9. ![]() |

I actually agree. I actively use a Nook Glow, a Kobo Aura and a PW2, they are all good and I have no trouble reading on any of them.
I've also used more ereaders than I can quote here and the only one I ever had any real trouble with was the most expensive one I ever bought, a Sony PRS 650, I paid £250 for that one. |
