Question Query about Semantics

Hi!

As I understand it, Semantics are used to identify (whatever that means) pages in Sigil. For example, Cover is used to identify the cover of the e-book.

Do all pages need to be identified? For example, do all chapters need to be identified as Text?

Where can I find information about Sigil's Semantics?

Thank you!

You can't do that anyway using Sigil.
"Only one" of a type. If there was one, it is replaced.

Text is the first (Start reading here) section (IMHO Prologue if it exists, else Ch #1)

Thank you for your reply.

Does that mean that if I identify Chapter 1 as Text, when the e-book is first opened, the cover is not displayed?

Nope, unless the reader software chooses to do so (and many do ).

It is a 'guide'

MRSDK (ADE) just opens to the first spot in the spine.

Note that the most commonly used ePub reading app, ADE/RMSDK, ignores all guide items.
OTOH, if you want to design ePubs that can also be used as source files for Kindle books, you'll need to identify the cover, the HTML TOC and the SRL (start reading location) using the Semantics menu.
If you apply these three semantics items correctly, the guide section in your opf file should look like this:

(The href paths are of course different in Sigil.)

Thank you for your reply.

So some readers will go to the Cover and others will go to the SRL (i.e., Text in EPUB). Right?

Thank you for your reply.

I do plan to publish the e-book for both Nook and Kindle.
