ebook to rtf
I have downloaded 'calibre ebook management' because I would like to be able to convert it to rtf format and cut and paste and edit ebooks for legitimate study purposes, and although I believe this may be the software tool to do it, I am not sure how to go about it.
Can anyone help with step by step instructions. It would be greatly appreciated. Last edited by NNic; 09-17-2014 at 05:49 AM. Reason: Some further info to add |

I tried converting it from epub to rtf. However a message appeared telling me it cannot convert because it is DRM protected.
Can I free it from DRM? I am only speaking about 1 particular book that I want to edit. |

No one here will tell you how to strip DRM. You should Google Apprentice Alf. Apprentice Alf is your friend.

Please post to the correct forum.
Also, Mobileread does not allow any instructions or links in any form whatsover on how to strip DRM. We ban members who knowingly do this. Your thread has been moved out of the GENERAL DISCUSSION forum and to.......the calibre forum. Don (Moderator) |

Dr Drib, I apologise. I was only asking a question about solutions and possibilities. I didn't imagine this would be worthy of a ban!

![]() If MobileRead allowed DRM guidance on its site, the site owners could end up in legal battles that could sink MobileRead -- although DeDRM itself is de facto okay (arguably ![]() So official MR policy is to not give guidance, although we are allowed to say, google "apprentice alf" for help. And doing more than that here will result in an Official Warning (above) and the deletion of any posts that actually provide guidance. Continued attempts will get a user banned, but the ban would be for willfully flouting site policy after being warned. Anyway, now you know, calibre can convert non-DRMed books for you, although you can also use the builtin viewer to read the (non-DRMed) EPUB itself. Just double-click on a book row, which by default will open the book (using the preferred input format) in the viewer, or click the format label in the Book Details window to the right. And it is possible to DeDRM them, but that is a discussion for a different site altogether. ![]() Oh, and, Welcome to MobileRead! ![]() ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 09-20-2014 at 11:09 PM. Once the eBook has no DRM, you can copy from the eBook. There is no need to convert to RTF to do so. You can even use Calibre's viewer to view the eBook and copy from there. But if you feel you must convert to RTF, please don't. There are bugs in the RTF conversion that cause it not to properly convert. Convert to HTMLZ and then load the HTML file into the word processor and save as RTF.

But what I did say to do first is once the DRM is stripped, see if using the reading program to copy from will do. If that's the case, there's no need to convert to HTMLZ or RTF.
