New Kindle or Used Kindle Paperwhite 2013
I have limited my options to these two
New Kindle http://www.ebay.in/itm/Amazon-AMZN10...item259700d33c Used Paperwhite http://www.ebay.in/itm/Kindle-Paperw.../321549849442? They are both available at the same price. This is going to be my first e-reader. I read 2-3 hours a day-maybe it will increase with this purchase. The storage capacity is not extremely important to me. I also wanted to know how good/bad are e-readers for reading magazines/comics or anything with pictures as my brother will probably be using it too. |

The Paperwhite is obviously the better of the two models, so I'd opt for it. However, if you have no need for an inbuilt light, you'd probably be perfectly happy with the new 'basic' model. Not sure either will be particularly great for comics/magazines, you can read them but some panning and zooming is often needed because of the small screen size of an ereader.

I strongly prefer the screen on the new basic Kindle where text feels strong and bold. While the light is nice, I never liked the way that text looks on the Paperwhite. It feels hazy and washed out to me. I know that speaking technically the Paperwhite screen should be the clear winner, but to my eyes with their astigmatism the basic Kindle screen looks much better.
Magazines and especially comics are terrible on a 6 inch e-ink screen. If those are a high priority, you definitely need a tablet (at least 7", but preferably something at least 8.9", without question bigger is better for magazines and comic books). Magazines that are primarily text based like Lightspeed Magazine work fine on an e-ink e-reader. |

Glad I'm not alone! I don't understand how it doesn't bother people more. I have strong astigmatism too; corrected, of course, but still, perhaps we're more sensitive to this flaw?

Perhaps we astigmatism sufferers have some sort of "hazy/indistinct display detecting" super power? |
