Basic Kindle and Paper White
As of my last look at my other thread on upgrading to the new amazon ereaders there were four of people that said that we are interested in the basic kindle and the paper white. Why are you not interested in the Voyage?
I ask for this reason, my paper white is having some issues, although its still operational. It is having enough issues that I might be interested in a new model. I am not particularly fond of the $200 bill for the new top of the line e-reader. |

Mostly...the $200 price tag. Yes, I had an original Kindle which was $360 at the time, but that was ages ago. My sweet spot for an ereader is $80-125. Any more than that and you are easily in tablet territory.
As for the 300 ppi...eh, whatever. I am so extremely nearsighted (my glasses prescription runs to -11 with 2.75 astigmatism on top) that as long as there is good contrast or I can crank up the font size, the better resolution doesn't do all that much for me. The hapatic page turn buttons DO interest me...I like physical page turn buttons (which is why I am still using a K3/Keyboard) but ... again ... $200. meh. I plan to watch for a flash deal on a Touch or a Paperwhite around Black Friday/Cyber Monday. |

I will upgrade to the Voyage if I can get it at a lower price. I think $200 is a lot when PW2 at $120 is an already excellent device. I am not fond of the edge to edge bezel. I once had a Kobo Aura and was constantly trying to clean the smudges off the surface. I don't need page turning buttons.
I love the 300 DPI and the fact that it is only 180g. I would love to get the Voyage for these reasons but the reasons are not worth $200. So.....I will stay happily with my excellent PW2 until a good deal for the Voyage comes along.... |

I didn't order due to the price, and the things I don't like about the kindle readers in general....poor font sizes and margins.

I hear you, we all need to look at the added technology and come to a decision of what the new technology is worth to us. Had the voyage tech been offered at the paper white price, I would have bought. I am still thinking about the matter now, I don't think that I am willing to pay $80 for the increased resolution, its text after all and how high a resolution and how high a resolution do I need for text, if it was graphics that I am looking at I can see that but this is text. Am I willing to pay $80 for the light sensor? I don't think so I'll pay an additional $15 max for that. So we need to decide how much are we willing to pay for the new technology.

*Page buttons? - I was really annoyed when they went away, but now I'm used to not having them. So, meh. *Smaller? - I like the size factor of the PW. But then I don't carry it in a pocket. Not sure the Voyage is small enough for that. *Titanium? - Really don't care as my e-reader NEVER goes naked. ![]() *Brighter? - I never have my PW past 1/3 brightness anyway. So, though I really was anticipating this new reader, I think I'll pass (for now ![]() Last edited by GoSharks; 09-20-2014 at 04:03 PM. Reason: spelling!! |

I have ordered it. I want the size, the weight, the flush screen and the buttons (I know they are pressure points but they are buttons to me). It was a considered purchase it took me 24 hours to get over the price but at the end of the day I wanted it. I have a PW2 that my DH will have and I have sold my second kindle, a PW1 already for £70 so that goes towards the cost.
I kept the cost down by going for the Belkin case which is £30, and it's the lightest case anyway. |

I am sure I will break down in the next few weeks and order it, as I am usually a sucker for improved resolution, but I am really struggling with viewing my KK as a person. P.S. Do you know if the Belkin cover turns the kindle on and off the way the Amazon one does? Last edited by krazy4katz; 09-20-2014 at 01:55 PM. |

I don't know if the Belkin is a sleep cover. It has a magnet in it so I can only hope. Tbh I didn't fancy the Origami cases (or the price for the red leather one) and I wanted a light case. The Belkin is the lightest at 118gms, the Origami's are 136gms and for some reason I cannot fathom the Incipios are over 300gms ![]() So for day one the Belkin seemed the best option. |

*If I were to sell my PW2 to upgrade to the Voyage, that'd be a different thing! Now that I'm used to it, I enjoy reading on it far more than my KK, but don't have the same emotional attachment to it?! |
