Change Colum Width

Hi,
Can I change the column width? I can but when I restart it defaults to standard width.
I've looked in the manual but either I can't find it or don't understand what I am seeing.

Question: Did you now do a search, if so did you find an answer to the problem?

I happen to agreee it would be nice if everyone checked to see if anyone else had their problem before posting. At its worst, the forum can be filled with redundant threads which drown out other issues. At its best, you can often find an answer faster than waiting for someone to regurgitate the same old info in a new location.

Do you imagine any of the unpaid unofficial calibre support team is thrilled to steer people to the threads that already answer a question? A little frustration is perhaps understandable.

Perhaps theducks could have been more diplomatic, but the point remains true.

Yep I did a search using several variants on the question and basically the answer is "no", at least as far as I could find.
There are very few threads regarding this...in several pages there are only a couple that pertain...at least with the "topic" in the title.

I donated to Calibre and love using it as my library system.

I read the manual and the faq's looking for an answer.

There is one post showing code changes but I'm unwilling to do such a thing because I'd probably do something wrong and fubar my library and configs...I do have several backups but just don't want to go through the aggravation of fixing what I screwed up.

There is one thread stating it can't be done and why.

Diplomacy be damned...nothing constructive to add...shut the hell up...not a surprise though, big attitude, one bullet, big mouth but no brain.

But you didn't follow my link (you know, the thing you asked for) or you'd've discovered a link to a bug report that says it's been fixed as of this week and the change will be in calibre 2.2

Might I add that my search for "column width calibre" found that post easily.

I don't fault you for not finding the right link yourself, I do fault you for continuing to not find it after I gave it to you.

I ask an honest question (colored perhaps by my interpretation of your second post which seemed to imply that you didn't do so) and this is the response I get? A simple "I did but I didn't find anything useful" would've sufficed. For your seond post too. No need to answer rudeness with rudeness -- but now you have made it difficult to sympathize with you.

You are unbearably rude towards the volunteers who provide help for calibre, through no obligation to do so. You have done nothing to help yourself down to and including clicking a link I handed to you. Apparently you just want to complain.

Would you like me to put you on my ignore list so I don't accidentally see your future posts and offend you by trying to answer them? (Only if you want me to. I try to be obliging.)

I did not find that link when searching.
I don't just want to complain...I asked an honest question and hoped for suggestions.
I have contributed to others with questions that I had input to offer and did. If I did not have input I left it alone.

Apology accepted. Please just try to remember that we all volunteer here, and everyone has an off day.

Snapping at people usually only escalates the snapping on all sides and doesn't help anyone in the long run. Far better to say "I tried that but maybe I didn't hit on the right search terms. Can you please point me to the relevant thread?"

(Which isn't to say I am not equally guilty of such behavior myself at times. )

Just to end this thread, Calibre 2.2 fixed the column widths not sticking.

Well, just to add my info. I've had trouble with these column's width not saving after a restart.
I've posted all about the problem in previous posts.
However, update 2.2 Did Not fix the problem for me, and the latest 2.3 update has also had no effect on the problem.
All those who had problems with the columns widths, did the update work for you?

You need to post more information like what OS are you using, 32 or 64-bit version?

I'm using both Windows 7 32-bit and Windows 8.1 64-bit and 2.2 does keep the column widths. I just tested 2.2 on my Windows 7 system and it too keeps the column widths.

I had the same problem and 2.2 fixed it for me as well.

Win 8.1 64bit

On starting Calibre again, the columns have returned to the default setting.
This is with version 2.2 installed and today updated to 2.3

Check if you have any read only files in your Calibre configuration directory.

Also, stop any anti-virus program from running. For that matter, stop ANY program from running. Then try Calibre.

Also, if none of that works, try booting in safe mode and try Calibre.
