Are the Night Watch books by Sergei Lukyanenko worth reading? I do like urban fantasy, but don't want to waste time on a series I may not like.

I've only read the first, but I also think it was very good. The rest are on my towering TBR pile. I'm not a big fan of horror books, so I started the series with some trepidation. However, at least the first book seemed to be more about philosophy than gruesome acts, to my great delight and relief.

The Night Watch books by Terry Pratchett are even more worth reading. And you get an added bonus which is the rest of the Discworld series.

I really liked Night Watch, but ended up taking a long time to finish Day Watch, and even skimming it. I read them maybe seven years ago, so don't really remember why, which is a bit irritating. I know I always meant to read on, but didn't.

I have been thinking of go back to the series, but since I now have to reread the first two, I probably never will. Day Watch became a bore to read for me. I still remember Night Watch as a very enjoyable read, so who knows, maybe I would feel different about Day Watch second time around.

You don't mention what kind of urban fantasy you read, but I say if you think Night Watch sounds interesting, try them! Don't read if you don't like plot twists, or don't like stories with moral dilemmas and ambiguity though
