CC prerelease V3.4.2a/V3.4.2b has been published

CC release 3.4.2b has been published to the prerelease group and will be available soon. This is a (mostly) bug fix release

• [BUG FIX]Fixed option for content server connections to ask calibre to generate file names using the same template as the wireless device driver. Requires calibre 2.0 or better.
• [BUG FIX - again]Respect the device setting locking orientation

Changes in V3.4.2a:

• [BUG FIX]Redisplay the grouping drawer correctly after a long-press
• [BUG FIX]Fix crash on Gingerbread when trying to change the last read date
• [BUG FIX]Fix rare crash on Honeycomb when in preferences
• [BUG FIX]Fix several rare crashes related to putting CC into the background when not showing the book list/grid
• [BUG FIX]Rebuild the database indices that were lost in a previous upgrade

I was excited to see the change for file names from the content server, but then noticed it requires Calibre 2.0. I'm waiting until Friday when the system colors are fixed. I did download a book anyway and didn't use my template as expected.

The database upgrade was done very quickly. I didn't have any of the other problems so I can't comment on them.

This doesn't seem to be working. If I set it to allow orientation changes in CC, but I turn them off at the system level, it still changes them in CC.

Am I doing something wrong? I did the following test:

1. Installed calibre 2.0
2. Checked the CC Settings box - 'Use calibre's file names ...'
3. The Save template in Customize SmartDevice App Interface is (and has always been)
   {author_sort} - {series}{series_index:0>2s| | - }{title}
4. Connect CC as Content Server
5. Select book and download
   Author: Conn Iggulden
   Title: Wolf of the Plains
   Series: Genghis Khan [1]
6. Open Book Details for new book. Path is shown as:
   /storage/emulated/0/Calibre_Companion/Iggulden, Conn - Genghis Khan 01 - Wolf of the Plains.epub
   which looks correct. However the file which was actually downloaded was named
   Wolf of the Plains - Conn Iggulden.epub
   Consequently when trying to open the book it is not found by the reading app.

Hmmm... works for me.

Try restarting CC after changing the system level option.

You used long-press to do the download? That goes through a different code path that I forgot about, which does what you described. If you look at book details in the content server and download it from there, it should work.

I will release a fixed version sometime later today, after there is some more time for other feedback.

I had several attempts assuming I must be doing something wrong. Long-press was one of them. I also tried short-press followed by selecting Download from the 'Download or show Metadata' pop-up menu. They both gave the same problems.

That worked, but it's going to be a bit odd for users. Most apps that have this functionality check for changes to the system setting on each rotate. The thinking goes: If you are lying in bed and the app is rotating, you go and turn off rotation in the notification tray. Then it doesn't rotate. With cc, you are saying it will still rotate until they exit and restart.

My Galaxy Nexus doesn't have rotation in the notification tray.

The problem was caused by needed to be able to deal with changing the orientation in CC from 'something' to 'system'. The incantation to change a running app from locked to respecting system settings wasn't obvious, but I think I found it.

Just installed V3.4.2b - Able to connect via wireless on Android 4.0.3 but not on Android 4.4.2 with same settings

Content Server works fine on both...

Fixed by cold booting router...

That is good to hear.

I wish I knew what happened to the routers to put them into these strange states that you and kaufman have seen. Especially if we are doing something that might exacerbate the situation.

Re: Content Server

I can see things have changed but it's still not working for me, I'm afraid.

Good News: There's no longer a mismatch between the filename CC thinks it has downloaded and the actual filename, so the downloaded book is readable by the reading app.

Bad News: The Save Template is never used, filename is always {title} - {authors}. I downloaded via 3 different methods and all gave the same result.
Short-press on book + Metadata option + Download button
Short-press on book + Download option
Long-press on book

After the first try I even did the following, before attempting any more downloads, to make sure CC had the correct setting:

unchecked Settings - Use calibre filenames
exited/reopened CC
checked Settings - Use calibre filenames
exited/reopened CC

CC debug log on its way.

It looks like you were talking to a calibre V2 machine on the 27th and a calibre V1.48 machine today. Is that possible?
