question about transferring to kobo in Japan

It is my understanding that the Japanese PRS 350s sold in Japan use different DRM to those sold in other countries?
is this correct?

Is it straight forward buying a kobo reader and getting the books bought on the Japanese sony reader store over to a Kobo? (I have calibre)

.... as my wife wants a new reader and like the smaller size of the 350 (I understand the same size as the Kobo)

I just don't want to rush into it and find problems as I think the sony readers here are slightly different (????)

thanks

I don't know if the DRM is different from other countries but if it isn't then it should work fine. I think that you are safe in buying a Kobo reader.

Can't help with whether or not the DRM in your Japanese 350 will be any different (normally you'd just register the new ereader to the same Adobe ID that you linked the Sony 350 too and the books would then be readable on both - you can register up to six devices I think). However, if you already use Calibre, I'd suggest if you've not already done so to consider getting help from Apprentice Alf and try out the tools for DRM removal, then you shouldn't need to worry about books not working on a new device.
