Carousel on Kobo Touch?

Is there a carousel on the kobo touch 2013?
Don't like the homescreen on it compared to the older Kobo
When I switched it on it always showed my books
But now there is a Google toolbar recommended books etc
Is there no way for it to just show my books, carousel or not when I switch it on, the same as before?

Sounds like you need to look at the firmware thread in the Developers Section and download the right one to fit your needs. Make sure you get the correct one for your device and follow the directions to a T.

That is the new home screen that is part of the current firmware. The tiles change as you open books and use other parts of the device. If the only thing you do is read books, the non-book tiles will quickly disappear from the screen and won't come back.

You can also get rid of particular tiles by doing a long press on the tile and select "Dismiss" from the menu displayed. There is one tile that can't be dismissed this way. It is the "Sync" tile. You can get rid of this tile, and prevent most of the others from showing using my Kob Utilities plugin and calibre.

If you want to go back to the old home screen and the carousel, then, as TechniSol's suggested, you will need to go back to an older firmware. For the Touch, 2.8.1 is probably the one to use.

I tried the Dismiss and it works well. But it just replaces other books on the same tiles over and over again. Since there are books on it that I have opened and just read the first page but decided to read them later. It is suggesting them all!!

If I understand what you are seeing, it isn't "suggesting" them. The tiles work in a similar way to the home screen. It showed the last five books that had been opened or added to the device. The tiles do the same, but extend the shown items to other things. As an example, if you open the web browser, there will be a tile for the browser. So, if you open a book and return to the home screen, that book will be in a tile. In fact, it will be the first tile. If you open another book, it will take the first tile and the previous book will move to the next. If you keep opening books looking for one to read, then the previous books proceed across the screen until they disappear.

There are some tiles that appear in response to other things. If you read a kepub purchased from Kobo, then a "Related items" tile with be added with suggestions based on that book. And the "Recommended" tile will appear after a sync. All tiles except the first book tile and the Sync tile can be dismissed. And as I mentioned, my Kobo Utilities plugin can prevent most of the tiles from appearing.

I'm confused. How do you expect the device to determine if its a book you have read just a few pages of and mean to read later, as opposed to one you have read a few pages of and will keep reading later?

While on home screen long press on, any book cover or recommended books, displays menu box with Open and Dismiss tile choses. Use this to dismiss unwanted books on home screen. Otherwise home screen shows books you have recently opened or books recently added to reader. Only tile on home screen I can't dismiss is last sync.
