Do I need to install MS Reader?

I'm looking into purchasing my first book from Books On Board and have a few questions.

Please confirm these steps:
1. Download book in MS Reader version from Books On Board.
2. Download ConvertLit from their website.
3. Use ConvertLit to strip DRM from book.
4. Use Calibre to convert book to LRF format.
5. (Do I need to transfer the converted book to my Sony Library?)

My main question is: Do I need to download and install MS Reader? On the Books On Board website, it said I need to download MS Reader before downloading my book.... I hate having extra programs on my computer if I'm never going to use it.

Thanks

You will need to import the newly created lrf file from Calibre into your Ebook Library. I think there is a way to get Calibre to recognize your reader but I have not used it as it is just as easy to import the file using the Library software. Good Luck!!

Yep, just plug your Sony into a USB port and calibre will recognize it... the "Send to device" button will light up.

Thanks guys.

I will download the books and MS Reader when I get home tonight.

I'm just debating on Fictionwise or BooksonBoard now....

I think if I buy more than 20 books a year, it'll be cheaper to go with Fictionwise, but if I buy less than 20, BooksonBoard makes more sense.... decisions, decisions...
