Calibre is written by Kovid Goyal; CC by chaley and his son. All MR members.

Of course they are people that know.
One of those people is Kovid Goyal. An independent programmer that is the principal developer of Calibre. He does have a group of volunteer helpers. Kovid makes living by maintaining Calibre in a way I have never EVER seen ANY company maintain a piece of software. And I have seen quite a lot of software, some of it very, very expensive. Thankful users make donations to support Kovid. Kovid posts on this forum under the name kovidgoyal. One of those volunteers, that help Kovid with the development is also the author of Calibre Companion. He posts on this forum under the name chaley. http://www.multipie.co.uk/about-us/ And now, you know too ;-). By the way, it takes about 30 seconds to google up all that info. Calibre even has Wikipedia page, not to mention respective sites for both projects |

To confirm kacir's and HarryT's response:
1) CC is developed and supported by me, my son Steven and his wife Annie. It is marketed by their company MultiPie Ltd. 2) Calibre is owned by Kovid Goyal, who spends (more than) full time working on it. I have donated multiple person-years of effort to calibre development. One of the things I maintain in calibre is the wireless device driver that CC uses. One wonders why you asked the question? |

Because Calibre is a free software, but I had to pay for CC, not even a free ad version. So it aroused my curiosity. It's good that you're donating of the money to Calibre developer, makes me feel that I have contributed because I have bought your app.

Yep - plugboards are an absolute godsend. One of the best features of Calibre.

Yes, I built a lot of stuff in calibre, including plugboard, the template language, custom columns, and a lot of searching and sorting. However, none of what I did would matter at all if not for Kovid's work, help, and advice. Please donate to Kovid if you like calibre and want to see it continue to improve.

What do you mean in no way? There is a obvious indirect support. Both financial and spiritual.
The creator of CC has already indicated he supports Calibre in terms of development for years. By make a purchase of CC I'm indirectly helping Calibre development as well. |
