Free (NetGalley) American Quartet by W. Adler [Washington Politics Murder Mystery]

So, Warren Adler (Wikipedia, IMDB), author of among many other things, The War of the Roses, which you may or may not have seen in its 80s film adaptation, and who's been very generous in the past with the freebies, especially that time he gave us a different free e-book every week for nearly an entire year, is about to have yet another one of his books adapted, and offers the 1st in series free to celebrate.

American Quartet is the 1st in his Fiona Fitzgerald mystery series starring a Washington, D.C. homicide detective from a privileged background who often gets involved in politically-oriented cases and thus has to navigate her very different social circles, possibly coming soon to a broadcast channel near you.

This has been very briefly free via the Sony store about 4 years ago, but IIRC has never otherwise been offered free (at least not on MR searchable record), not even during that year-long rotating giveaway promotion he had. It's also been on the New York Times Bestseller list, back when that possibly meant more than it does now.

Anyway, the author is offering this free through August 30th @ NetGalley (via this message on Adler's Facebook feed), where you will not only have to sign up for an account (no real personal info needed), you'll have to fill out at least one Category of favourite book to read and put some words in your Bio before the system will let you request the book.

Presumably, this will be DRM-free and downloadable, as this is an option for authors/publishers on the website, Adler gave away his previous freebies DRM-free via direct download from his website.

Apparently this is not an automated process, and Adler will have to manually approve the requests, so I thought I'd bump this up the priority posting queue to give anyone interested a bit more lead time before the official cut-off date.

Almost all of Adler's work is couponable @ Kobo, and while somewhat pricey to begin with, nearly all of it has been previously traditionally print-published by the major houses. And he gave away something like ⅔rds of it to us anyway.

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
