Hi all
I had a big fear today. I downloaded Calibre last release (1.47), then run it to update the existing one (1.36?). After a few minutes the process was done, and it execute Calibre. And all was empty. All my libraries were disappeared. The folder "calibre" contains just the "metadata.db". No more. I don't know the reason of this behavior, this is not the first time I update Calibre, but it's not a good thing. The only possibility I have is to restore it from the backup. Does someone has idea about that? |

My best guess is that it's just looking for the library in the wrong place. Check the library Quick Switch menu and see if you can find it. Failing that, do a hard drive search for "metadata.db". My guess is you'll find at least two: one for the empty library you're looking at, and one for the real library.

No. There is only one metadata.db and it's in the right place. The folder containing my libraries (and some other things) was totally empty out.

What "other things" were in this folder? What OS are you running. Exactly what is your setup? It is safe to say calibre did not wipe out your folder and all the subfolders during an update so you really need to look a little closer. Did you do a search of the entire drive for any other metadata.db, epub, mobi or pdf files? Your library folder and books were not altered by the upgrade so poke around and let us know where you find the books |

Calibre will create a new (default) Library ONLY when it cannot find the:
1) last one used (uses preferences) 2) the default Library folder does not exist Common reasons for 'lost libraries' 1) Library was on a network share that disconnected 2) Library was on a removable DRIVE and the letter changed 3) The user stored the (real) library on the desktop that got 'cleaned up' ![]() 4a) Your Antivirus declared the Library folder 'infected' and placed it into the 'vault' 4b) Automatic cleanup of old files and folders 5) Impending doom: Hard drive is failing (lost sectors). The Windows: event viewer log should have some red flagged entries ![]() |

Looking a little closer (as suggested by DoctorOhh) I find the original folder in a different position, inside another folder.
Really I can't figure Calibre to transfer a whole folder, including not only its libraries, so may be this happened before the update. Did I accidentally do it? Aaaaargh! In this case, as theducks says, the Calibre setup didn't find any library and recreated it. Not sure, but... possible and reasonable. For your information: - libraries on local hard disk - no virtual libraries - no disk error - os: win 7 Thanks all for attention |
