Marked text edit problem
What am I doing wrong? I hope I explain this properly.
If, in editor, I mark a section of text to make corrections, it will occasionally reverse the order of my paragraphs. For example: I don't like having a letter (that someone reads in the story) in italics, so I remove the <em></em> tags for only the letter. I mark the required text, remove those tags, using search and replace, and it's all good. Once in a while, however, the paragraphs get changed around. The first paragraph in the letter is now the last; second paragraph is now second to last, etc. It doesn't happen consistently, and I'm not sure if I'm doing something without realizing, so I thought I'd ask! Yesterday I had a book with about 7 letters that I wanted to fix in this manner, and 3 out of the 7 had this problem. I'm think I did them all in the same way, but probably not or they would all be ok, or all have the 'error'. |

Ok, so no ideas on this? It is still happening. Marked text would be a great tool, but since it either doesn't work properly, or I'm doing something I can't see as a mistake, it's useless. I don't see what mistake I can make with 1) Highlight text; 2) Mark text (ctrl+shift+m); 3) do search and replace for what I want changed.
If only it was a consistent thing, I might be able to figure it out on my own. I just don't see why the order of paragraphs **sometimes** gets inverted and other times not. |

@MerlinMama - Suggestion: when you get this problem, copy the epub somewhere, then open the copy in the editor (it'll be a second instance) and see what happens if you only redo the edit that just did the unwanted paragraph re-ordering.
If it reorders the paragraphs then that probably suggests there's something in the 'book code', that's causing the re-ordering. I can't imagine what that would be. But you will at least have something repeatable that Kovid could look at. If it doesn't reorder the paragraphs then that suggests either it's something you did, or its something in the book editor that only manifests itself after 'extended' use. Its instances like this where macros will be handy. I often make a mistake when repeating a familiar sequence of operations. BR |

Okay, just to see if I could find an example, I opened one of my books in editor, and selected 5 paragraphs (starts with <p> tag, ends with </p> tag). To these, I added the <em></em> tag as needed for my example.
I then selected those 5 paragraphs, marked the text (ctrl+shift+m) and did a search and replace to remove the <em> tag. The paragraphs were reordered so the last paragraph came first, etc. I then did the search and replace for the </em> tag and the paragraphs reordered themselves back to original order. So, I can figure that it **seems** to do this every time. I do mostly do a double operation, but sometimes if it's just to remove something else, it is single, which would explain why I thought it didn't do it every time. Ugh, not sure if that makes sense, but it's late for me. |
