Portrait mode a very long disgusting situation for me as reader
I don't know how it starts. I m suffering landscape screen from origin of the PC. Later came the portrait mode to tabletpc, tablet android, ebooks, and so on.
No solutions in decades. Carring external monitors to rotate. Even press professionals I suppose have the same problem. No portrait laptop, no specifically design for portrait screens ,... I only have a solution at least to read webpages , my main hobby. Do you know some greasemonkey script to divide the screen in two?. The right part of the screen must show where last the left part of the screen. I´m not programmer unfortunately. I think it´s the only way to use a landscape screen in any laptop. Another suggestion?. I spent a lot of money renovating tabletpc computer in the past because of this " technological tyranny ". I felt like a ![]() ![]() |

If you prefer to use portrait orientation screen, a tablet is probably the best solution for you at present.

I don't know which OS you are using, but in Windows, there is a selection to have the text either portrait or landscape. All you would have to do is the turn your monitor and/or laptop on its side "portrait mode" with the selection made and you have a portrait screen.
I believe the commands are with the display commands in the control panel. AJ |

I know about the drivers . I rotated the desktop and ... the laptop (not very good idea), everybody knows. With a browser with this "feature" you dont need to do these "things", you can take a productive landscape format.
All its around the landscape format... hardware, Webpage design, .... |

Never had a problem. Flat panel displays can *all* be made portrait displays. Some for free, some at cost. At worst, you buy a monitor stand like this: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2 With a lot of monitors you don't have to do even that: you can remove the monitor's base and re-attach it in portrait mode. I've done it repeatedly with monitors from several vendors. For portables, convertible TabletPCs have been available for over a decade. I've had good experiences with Compaqs, HPs, and Toshibas. There has always been a premium for laptops capable of portrait use but it has been steadily dropping. These days it is lower than ever, with the increasing popularity of 360 degree hinges and touch. Of course, all this only applies to the Windows world. Macs were the first mainstream computers to support portrait computing but under Jobs that was generally deprecated. |

Graphics drives to rotate desktop always be there. I like to use my Macbook for everything but no portrait stand avalaible (besides the screen dont move 180°). A web browser to take advantages of a landscape format would be perfect . For example 2 columns in ereader in Macbook are perfect (calibre or whatever). Why not a web browser with 2 columns?

If your primary use for a device is web browsing, a tablet would seem to be the ideal solution.
