Aura freezing: how to reset
A couple of times now, my Aura HD (first generation, in case there are more: I haven't kept track) has suddenly frozen.
The only reboot method I know is to hold the off button switch to off until it reboots. But it doesn't respond to that. The last couple of times this happened, the Aura did finally reboot -- sort of spontaneously, after a while. Is this a common problem? And is there really no other way to reboot it than by holding the on/off button? It's simply not responding to that right now. Pretty annoying. Looks to me like hardware failure of some kind, but that's really much too soon for a device this price. |

There's a pinhole for reset a little right to the SD card slot.
(Oh wait, that is Aura, not HD, no idea if the HD has one too) |

Well, maybe this is an Aura, not an Aura HD. As I said, I haven't kept track of the models very closely and I'm not sure what the difference between Aura and Aura HD is. Mine is a black and white conventional reader, the first 7" model they brought out. Sorry for the confusion.
There is something like a pinhole, I'll try that again. S**t, now to find a paperclip... |

Well, that doesn't take effect straightaway either.
There's a little light at the top that flicks on when I hold the on/off button. After a while it flicks back off without anything happening. Whether I press a paperclip into the pinhole or not. *&*^%$ |

James Joyce never had this problem.

Okay, so waiting a bit and trying again (without using the pinhole) helps. Now it's rebooted. Or factory reset maybe: I have to choose a language again.
Maybe time to upgrade the firmware to version 3 to see if that helps. I'd actually turned off updating thinking: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. |

I own a Kobo Aura HD and I must say, I have been lucky that it has not frozen or anything weird. This is my second Kobo I have owned (previous was a Kobo Touch - which still works perfectly). I also do not do the 'sync' when there is a new software update, I don't charge it to my pc and I read a lot of side loaded books too.

Well, I don't know what the cause is. The heat, or just general wear. Or a fluke.
I didn't need any updates and never synchronized, always had WiFi turned off. Now I've switched it on and upgraded (to 3.3, apparently 3.5 isn't rolled out to my device yet). And I must admit, there IS a new feature in the new FW that is very alluring: the Pocket app. I already use that a fair amount on my tablet -- nice to have the articles saved to pocket at my disposal on the Kobo too. Maybe I'll start using the wifi more... |

My Aura HD will freeze on occasion. I would try the on/off method then the paper clip method. Sometimes 2 or three times each b4 finally seeing a reset. Then one time after just the on/off method I was diverted to another task and left the Aura on my desk. 1/2 hour later when I was able to get back to it it had reset. Now when it happens I either do the on/off or paper clip once and leave it alone. It has always eventually reset(knock on wood).

Yes, in one case I also saw it spontaneously reset after I'd abandoned it for a while. But *waiting* isn't really a viable option for me. That really cripples e-reading as opposed to "analogue" reading.
