Reading information more usefull than I realized

I was not aware that using the book read information would show up on the book list screen. That's a useful enough feature that I have changed how I track books read to use the CC approved method. I am posting it in in case anyone else was not aware of it.

So thanks to Purple Lady for the screenshot and thanks (as always) to Chaley for the feature.

Thanks. I was not aware of it and will now perhaps look into changing how I do things.

I am looking at this on my pc and the screenprint is so huge I can only see part of it at a time. I was thinking oh, I have that same book and that one too before I realized that's my screenshot blown up.

Okay, I finally got around to changing how I mark books read in Calibre to a Y/N column. In CC it shows in a books details if it's read or not, but it's not showing in the book list (see attached). Is there some setting I'm missing? Also is there a way to get the mark to show on the cover grid (perhaps a small mark on the corner of the cover)?

I'm running 3.4.4 (from the Amazon store) on a Fire HDX 8.9

You have to set Settings->Book List->Show Read Information.

i assume that this depends 1) on having a custom colunm called "read" in calibre, and 2) on manual updates to that column on PC.

now If CC could automatically mark a previously unread book as read whenever I complete reading it ON THE TABLET, that would be truly impressive * & probably impractical to program )

I don't have that setting available. I did figure it out however. I had an error in my sync column value, it works now.

That is in the alpha release. The production release shows it as a text box.

There is no way that CC can know if you finished the book, but it does know if you started reading it as long as you launch the reader from CC (which I don't think you do). Set CC's option to update the "last read date" when you launch the reader. Sort in CC by that date and set the read indicator for any books you have finished.

true- I usually "read" from within Mantano. ( my default reader on tablet)
if I "read" from CC , for a book that is already imported to mantano,then I see a repeat of the "importing book" process for Mantano, which is probably harmless- is that what you'd expect, for that software. I've not checked to see if that "re-import" does anything to existing bookmarks/ annotations; it does open correctly at last page read

PS I only keep a few books at at time on any reader device, so I am not that fussed about "read" indicators. the Mantano display shows me pages read + total pages for each imported book & that's all I need.

but can a Y/N read column in calibre be seen from CC when in connect to content server mode - I'd use that.
(but I don't have a Y/N to test with, I'd have to make one & populate it)

I have only a column that accepts any letter, where I use Y for past-tense read i.e. finished, i for in=progress , i.e. reading, q for quit i.e. gave up because it was crap, but keeping it in the calibre library as a reminder not to bother in future, the rest of the alphabet in reservice for if ever I invent another category
