Calibre not syncing all metadata

I am having a problem, where calibre will only sync the series info for some books, but not all to either my mini, glo or aura (none hd).

Also I use the books as they are synced to my device from kobo i.e I have only 3 non kobo books on my device, only one of which has series info which is showing. The other two books are standalone and not part of a series.

Also this seems to happen to whole series and not just individual books in a series.

I assume I am doing something wrong in calibre, but cannot think what it is.

Calibre currently has the Kobo Reader Device interface 2.1.6 and the Kobo Touch 2.1.6 versions running, but has the KoboTouchExtended disabled. Is this the problem or do I need to do something else to transfer the series info over?

The series information should be synced to the Kobo device on the next connection. If you send a book to the device, it can't set the series information until the device processes the book and adds it to the devices library. The same happens if you change the series info while the device is connected. It doesn't change until the next connection.

For books that come from somewhere other than the calibre library, the series information will only be set if the book on the device matches a book in the library. That means there has to be a green tick for the book when the device is connected. If you have a book that is on the device and in the library but doesn't have the tick, it usually means the title or authors are different. This might be spelling (US vs UK spellings of title), a subtitle included in one place but not the other or how the author names are shown. You can force a match from the device list in calibre. Find the unmatched book, right click on it and select "Match book to library". Use the dialog to find the book in the library, select it and press OK. Once you have done that for all the books, right-click on the device button and select "Update cached metadata on device". From then on, calibre should match the books and update the series info if necessary.

Of course, you do need to have the configuration correct. The series info option has to be selected in the driver configuration and on the "Sending books to devices" page of the calibre preferences, the metadata management option should be set to automatic.
