how to edit columns quickly
I would like to add custom columns to my library of nearly 1,000 ebooks. Is there any way to edit a new column other than selecting the specific cell twice with the mouse? It's a nightmare doing it like this.
I'd love to be able to edit a Y/N column by going into edit mode, typing Y, pressing enter (going to the next row), pressing some key to go back into edit mode, etc. I've attempted to do some searching for this answer but have had no luck. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

@Galeg - did you try pressing F2 key in the cell, I don't think it needs a tweak to enable.
Also if you tab out of an edited cell then you will be at next cell in edit mode. If you select multiple books, press 'E' then you'll in bulk metadata edit dialogue. BR Last edited by BetterRed; 06-16-2014 at 05:46 PM. |

Galeg,
I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do with the custom columns, but if you select only those books that need a specific answer (Y only, N only, Purple only, 42 only, etc) then you can use Edit Metadata in Bulk's Search and Replace tab to fill the column with a specific value. Just be very careful what you do there. Once you press the OK or Apply button, the changes are made without further warning. It is possible to garble your metadata in this manner if you're not really careful. Particularly if you're using Regex. |

Thanks for the fast responses. F2 seems to do exactly what I wanted! I'm too clumsy to select a bunch at a time and edit that way, I'd just end up frustrating myself.

You don't need Search and replace mode to set any field (column) to a single value for SELECTED BOOKS.
Normal Bulk mode assigns whatever (1 or more fields) data is set to All (selected) books |
