Disappearing book
Marvin is giving me the following error message: "One or more books in your library cannot be opened. Try deleting the bad book(s) using iTunes."
This is true. I have a book that appears in my iPad's library that cannot be opened. It doesn't appear in Marvin under the iTunes file sharing section. This makes it a bit hard to delete the file that way. |

I received similar error messages from time to time (though note lately). Usually (if not always), if I simply used Calibre to reconvert the book to ePub (or even did an ePub to ePub conversion) and then sent it back to Marvin, the problem would be gone.

In this particular case, it's a file I grabbed online, so Calibre wasn't involved either. Thing is I have plenty of other books that do show up in the iTunes file sharing section that I grabbed the same way. Just this one book is different and not showing up. (the file is from Archive of Our Own and normally their epub files are as trouble free as it gets)
I have tried re-downloading the book, but nothing changes. I also tried rebooting my iPad, in case there was something wonky going on with memory use. No joy. If I try emailing the book to myself, I get an email with the book's title and author, but no book file. If I email a regular downloaded book (one that shows up in iTunes file sharing and that otherwise behaves), I get an attached file. I can add notes to the book. I can add search terms to the metadata. I can mark it as read or rate it. So I think if I can tell Marvin "look you idiot, you lost the book file but kept the book in the database anyway" it should be easy to fix. |

Marvin sometimes chokes on eBooks with errors in them. That could be the problem. That's why I suggested using Calibre to do an ePub to ePub conversion. That may fix the error in the book. (That's what worked for me when I received the error that you mentioned in your original post.)
