Hello, all:
I am having a problem with the Touch, Customer Service can't solve it, and I am wondering if anyone out there in Internet Wonderland might know of a fix: I have a few over 1,000 books on my Kobo proper, but I was running out of room. So, since I had a spare 16GB Micro SD card, I thought I would off-load a few onto that. Using Calibre, I deleted the selected books from the main memory and copied them to the SD Card. Calibre finds them just fine and also knows about the collection they belong to. However, when I first turn on the Touch, the Touch cannot find the SD Card or its contents. Keeping the Touch powered up, if I remove and replace the card, after a bit of soul searching, the Touch does find the card and the books thereon, but it does not recognize that some are members of collections on the SD Card. I spoke with Kobo Customer Service but they said the SD Card didn't work like an extension of the Kobo memory like the Kobo adverts claim. This seems to me to be a software error but I was wondering if someone might know if a fix, work-around, or something similar. Thanks in advance. This is a known bug that has been in the firmware on the Touch for a while. The device doesn't load the SD card properly when restarted. It does see the card as it does something when you eject it. And when you connect to a PC, the PC can see the card.
The workaround, as you have found, is to eject the card and insert while the device is running. And if you change the sleep options to never power off, you will rarely see the problem. Kobo do know about the problem, but haven't done anything to fix it. For the collections problem, make sure the device has seen the books on the card and then connect to the PC and run calibre. If you have the options set to do collection management, it should create the collections. After that, they should appear on the device whenever it fully recognises the card. |

My workaround is to pull the actually reading books onto the main memory, and storing them back to the SD-card (or deleting) after having finished them.
