[SOLVED] Issue with Kobo Aura Original Case

Hi again!

When I bought my Aura I bought the original case, since they were making an offer. Now that I have it I don't regret my decision at all, it gives the device a much more executive look and overall it really fits well. The thing is the issue of when I turn the cover all the way back.

http://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/wp-...ver-folded.jpg

See, when I do this because of the strenght of the magnet it locks the device as if it were touching the screen, only it is not. I have been using it with the sleep cover option turned off, but it's really handy to open and close and it turniing on and off on its own. What I do now is put my finger between covers so there's a space between.

Anyone else having this problem and did you find a way to fix it?

Thanks!

SOLUTION

I find it strange that it worked, but I can't deny the evidence. I figured as the magnet field was too strong maybe something I put between the device and magnet that could alter this would solve it, by influencing the field. Another magnet. I looked at home for one of those thin weak magnets, rubber-like, and found one that was just the fit.

Here are some pictures:

Kobo with cover and no solution, it stands on the table after turning on and because the cover is turned back it automatically goes to sleep.

Here I am putting the tinfoil in place, it's so thick that it actually becomes hard to hear the snap.

It works to some extent, but when holding the device the result is the same, it goes to sleep.

This is the one with the magnet, notice how small and thin it is, you won't even know it's there.

The end result is this, I am actually pressing the cover hard against the back so that you can see that it really works that well!

Mind the fact that I have tried this with three similar magnets and only this one worked. So if it doesn't work for you at first try it with a different one and maybe it will then.

Sorry for the long discussion and thank you all for the sugestions!

I have a different cover with a similar issue; I had some grippy shelf liner similar to
http://www.amazon.com/Grip-Shelf-Dra.../dp/B000KFSOFI

I put a rectangle maybe 1 X 2 inches between the back of the eReader and the cover where the magnet is, and it works 95% of the time (if I press too hard it may turn off, but moving it away . I read others had put aluminum foil layers to solve it as well.

Had this exact cover on since i bought an aura last summer and its fine. Never had a problem with the magnet and i read with the front cover folded right to the back. Just checked again and yep its fine.

Maybe your magnets just a smidge stronger than mine?

I guess my cover magnet is just stronger than it should be. No simple solution then...

The solution is pretty simple as dmacmart said above. Just take a piece of tin foil and fold it up several times and place it over the magnet between the cover and the reader. If I remember, I think mine ended up being 8 or 16 layers thick. A very easy, quick, inexpensive solution. Just make it thick enough so when folded back the magnet no longer shuts off the reader. Quite a few covers do that if they have stronger magnets, not just the official Kobo covers.

Dmacmart and Ripplinger don't get me wrong by my previous reply. I did try both your solutions but they didn't work for me. I guess the magnet is just too strong. Thanks a lot still!
What I do now is turn it all the way round until it turns off. Then I manually turn it on using the slider and somehow it deactivates the sleepcover for that time, so I guess it's an acceptable workaround...

Cheers!

Make it thicker then, right now I'm using folded up paper towels between the reader and cover and that works well too.

An alternative would be to get the 10$ cover from eBay...I have no problems with it. Might not look as sharp as the original one, but definitely not crappy.
I am NOT the seller

Many of us have that same cover and it seems random if you have a strong magnet or not causing the problem when you turn the cover back. I have that exact one in black and from another vendor in dark blue, both have magnets that are too strong, but inserting either tin foil or paper towels works perfect.

I have two of these, no issues whatsoever with the magnet. Plus they're compact, not bad looking and sturdy.

Ripplinger do you have the leather one? Because mine isn't, it's the grey fabric, maybe, I don't know, it's because of that?

Ipse, I am not saying that the cover you have doesn't look good, but for one I already have mine so no use in buying two covers, also something I have come to like in the original cover is the way that it's just a little bit bigger than the Kobo itself so in case of a fall it's (almost) pretty safe.

I have tried to make the tinfoil thicker to the point where the Kobo almost won't snap to the cover... Haha! Like I said, it does help, but only a little, and it makes a big bulk on the back...

Anyway, thanks again, I am now using the method I described above, turning it on after it turns off and it does work really well.

From the photos I am seeing I really think that yours, Ripplinger, is just a tiny bit thicker so that it makes enough of a difference, so basically what the tinfoil is doing for me is probably pretty much what your cover already does. Therefore when we use the tinfoil it is solving your cover problem but not mine.

SOLVED - Solution added to first post.

You may want to try dmacmart and Ripplinger solutions as well, they didn't work for me but they may for others.

Cheers!
