Arrow MobiPocket Newspapers Link

Hey all,

I have not been able to get any local Utah paper (yes, I know, it's Utah) to be able to convert well with iSilo. But if any of you by chance have, please let me know how you set it up?

Anyway, after many many, (I mean many) emails bugging the "Performance Quest" company that provides a local paper for Utah as well as national papers for mobipocket reader.

At first for a long time, we had to have the Mobipocket Reader converter to get the papers, now they have a direct download, which is what I wanted, since I use Macintosh, there are no Mobipocket Reader converters available for Macs.

The papers they have are:
USA Today
LA Times
OC (Orange County Register)
Daily Herald (Utah)
Slate
Jazz (Utah)
The Washington Times
BYU Cougars (Utah)

I think it will expand...

Now the direct download links are here. http://www.performance-quest.com/pqd...lications.html

Personally, I hate Mobipocket reader, so if you know how to get iSilo to work on any of the utah papers, please let me know.

- Nick

I've never heard of performance-quest. It is something similar to Roundpoint.com, who also delivers subscription-based daily news content. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way to convert Mobipocket .prc files to iSilo documents, other than reverse-engineering the two formats, which is probably a) way too complicated and b) not legal in most countries.

It is probably easier to visit the web page of your local paper, and see if there are ways to convert it directly to iSilo.

For instance, The Daily Herald offers RSS feeds. These could be used with a reader like Sunshine and some xslt transformation to get a mobile-friendly version. Or you could use Sitescooper to scrape the necessary info from the page.

Arrow Ignoring Me

Hey there,

I try to download the Daily Herald, but it is an old paper, 9/21/2004. I have a long history of complaining to Performance Quest about all this, and now they purposely ignore me, thinking I am the only one that reads that paper.

The truth be told, they claim it is because I am a Macintosh user, and I cannot use the Mobipocket eNews feature that is only available on Windows, so all the other subscribers are windows, or so they claim.

They do not feel that they have to serve me, because there is one Macintosh user. After months of complaining that I cannot download, they finally gave in and provided a direct download...http://www.performance-quest.com/pqd...lications.html

But it is now an outdated paper, and they are refusing to respond to me or fix it. I am asking if you all would help me out and send complaints as well, hoping that they will not ignore all of you. Send to this address...
info@performance-quest.com

Thanks!

Perhaps Mobipocket can ask them what is going on or explain to you why it should be restricted to Windows users only?

Arrow Mobipocket will not support Macintosh

They already said that they will not support Macintosh, so it comes down to having either a direct download or none at all for the Mac users.

Performance Quest has been making the direct download, but have been lazy and neglected to update the direct download feature, which is what i am complaining about.

OH well.
