Auto-Syncing on Paperwhite

I go back and forth between my Kindle Paperwhite and the Kindle app on my iPhone. When I open the book in the app, a message will pop up asking if I'd like to sync to the furthest page read. When I open the book on the Kindle, it won't sync until I manually open the options and select Sync to Furthest Page. I thought when I first got the Paperwhite it automatically asked if I wanted to sync just like the iPhone. Is there a way to make it automatically sync?

Do you have the setting turned on to autosync on the pw?? I know mine is not as quick for the box to pop up on the pw as it is on my android or Fire but it does pop up after a minute or two. I usually open the book and walk away in order for it to have time to sync or as is my habit, I stop at chapter points so it is easier to quickly jump to where I left off on the Fire.

Yes, the setting is turned on. I've also restarted the Kindle, and tried going into another book and then back into the other book and the option to sync just never pops up. I always have to go select Sync.
