Locating Kindle books in Calibre
I have a PC loaded with
W8 and K4PC. I am attempting to transfer my Kindle content into Calibre but can not locate K4PC in my Calibre program. When I right click on Add Books and then "Add books from a single directory" my Kindle doesn't appear. Please help! |

If you're using the Win 8 Metro App version of Kindle4PC you'll have a bit of a challenge finding the books as they're stored in bits and pieces instead of a whole file. What most folks do is install the regular Kindle4PC (for Win7, Vista & XP, but runs fine on Win 8 desktop). For that version the books will be in your Documents in a folder called My Kindle Content.

Try This PC>Documents>My Kindle Content.
Also, to load the books from there into Calibre you can just drag and drop them if you find that more convenient (DRM permitting). |

There simply are no ebook files to find unless you install the regular Kindle for PC program instead of the Win 8 app. |

In any event, for the case of the Modern version (i.e. the one from the Windows Store), my experience is that if the directory I gave in my post exists, created by Kindle for PC having been installed, the Modern version also places its files in there too (EDIT: which is sensible behaviour as that makes the book available to both applications on the same machine-by "places" I mean the files are available for K4PC syncing with Amazon). Of course, others mileage may differ, but that is how it works here on two different machines. Last edited by AnotherCat; 05-13-2014 at 06:59 PM. |

![]() But, whatever, it is irrelevant if the OP is using K4PC as they have said they do. The only reason I added the bit about syncing with My Kindle Content is that it then becomes obvious that even if one uses the Modern Kindle application you can still get the books to Calibre via K4PC. |

I knew exactly what you said/meant. I just thought it was rather pointless to mention that with both programs installed, one of them (the old one) would continue to put its files in the My Kindle Documents folder. Of course it will. And the Win 8 app will continue to store it's ebooks in encrypted fragments in the sqlite database.

Read the last paragraph of my last post as to the point of my earlier elaboration.
You may be dismissive about the point but should the OP happen to be using the Store app (after all you assumed they were, and it could be that you are correct), or anyone else be using the Store app, they now know how to get the book files. In order to better understand why it is not pointless to mention the matter, there have been many questions here and in other places where posters do not understand that K4PC will run on Win 8.x PCs, that because Amazon refer (confusingly) to it as the "Windows 7, Vista & XP" application and the Store app as the "Windows 8" app. That leads to some thinking that with Windows 8.x you have to use the "Windows 8" app and causing further confusion as to how the book files are to be found or how to get them. I'll leave it there, I have better things to do than to to and fro on the matter. Hopefully someone somewhere, someplace, sometime has been helped. |
