Kobo mini got slower ...
I got my new Kobo mini a few days ago.
Today I noticed that turning a page now takes between one and two seconds. I am in the middle of reading a book with about 200 pages. When I started reading that epub, turning the page was much faster. The battery is full, wireless is off. Any ideas or suggestions? Schwabinger |

Thanks for your quick reply.
Unfortunately restarting the device did not help. Or do I have wrong expectations: are 1-2 secs for turning a page normal? Schwabinger |

Well I don't think you do. I have 4592 books on my Aura HD and it does not take that long to turn a page. It could be an issue with the book you are currently reading. Did you try a different book?

Well, you are right.
It is much faster with other books. Thanks for your help! Schwabinger |

If you bought the book from kobo try the kepub (in my experience they seem to be somewhat faster than epubs...but it could just be my imagination
![]() @jackastor The Aura HD isn't a fair comparison, its processor is faster ![]() |

Could bookmarks in a epub book slow down the turning of a page?

I think I remember my Glo being slower after using a lot of highlights/notes but I mean a LOT. So just bookmarks, unless you have a ton, I don't think it should affect it. But then again I'm no expert.

Page turn times my Kobo Mini is slower than with Kobo Touch because of slower processor. As I remember my Kobo Wifi also with slower processor also had slower page turn speeds than my Kobo Touch. This was really noticeable switching between Kobo Wifi and Kobo Touch. When I was really reading fast on Kobo Touch after exclusive use of Kobo Wifi for 1 week I was anticipating the slow page turns and starting page turn early so with the Kobo Touch page turn was staring before I had finished the sentence.
I timed 10 page turns then divided time by 10 to get more accurate page turn times. Page turn times for 365 page epub book 2 Years Before the Mast averaged 1.638 seconds. Page turn times for 234 page epub book Texas Matchmaker averaged 1.37 seconds. For the 2nd book I might have been a little more aggressive trying to turn pages faster. I have not timed page turns on my tablet with LCD screen but it should be much faster because it doesn't use slow refresh eink screen and has much better processor. With use of slower readers with slower page turns you will adapt and stop noticing slower page turns and page blanking between turns and find it doesn't really matter. Still faster than turning paper book pages. |

Eink is also capable of faster refresh rates but that requires more power. Eink is actually very inefficient compared to LCD (from what I've read/seen) if you have it constantly active. It's advantages are the bi-stable technology that doesn't require power as long as the image remains static, which is why they're great for ereaders but not phones'/tablets' general use. |

If you have the time, and if this is an epub book (not a DRM's epub, or kepub) you could open it up with an editor (such as Sigil) and explore the structure of this sluggish book. The publisher might have just done a bad job building the epub by shoving all the text or using loads of images into a single file. I have come across whole books that have all the chapters crammed into a single sub document structure (i.e. .xhtml) within an epub.
Hope you enjoy the mini, I have been very happy with mine. |

The book has 200 pages, only one image and consists of just 1 chapter.
This is ok because the printed book does not have chapters either. Can that be the reason for slow page turns? Schwabinger |

Yes, the larger the file inside the book, the slower everything gets. If the book has a single for 200 pages, page turns will get slower the further into the book you get.
