Question wireless N vs Wireless G

where can I find info on which readers & tablets in Kobo's range are able to use Wireless N, and which are wireless G only please.

do I have to look up each individual device or is there a summary somewhere already ?

According to specs at Kobo web site any kobo product you buy today will have N connectivity.

well that's a tad ambiguous. I have a Kobo arc that I bought "today" - well a few weeks ago to be pedantic , which was being sold new by Currys on ebay but that's a 3 year old model ?

so surely it depends on what model you buy "today" & from where ?

Wireless N started to become the standard connectivity in 2009, and Kobo's first ereader came out in 2010. So you can pretty much assume that all their wifi-compatible devices are wireless N. But if you're unsure, just look it up.

ok thanks - but I think the related question , that I should have asked, is which devices can operate on the 5Ghz band

some routers ( like mine, which I am looking to replace) do wireless N only at 5Ghz and I am reading that not many devices support that. e.g. Kindle Fire does N but only at 2.4GHz

It only got finalised in late 2009, it was a few years later than it was ubiquitous enough to be considered the standard across everything including devices with two figure price tags.

Kobo list it for all the current models on their website, it's less than thirty seconds to open all the pages and check (all the current tablets have it, I didn't bother to check the eReaders). Are you interested in older models as well?

i just wanted a pointer to a summary if one already existed. I am really only needing to know about the 2 device I currently own - a Kobo Arc tablet ( original model) and an Aura HD reader , but idle curiosity sometimes drives me to ask for the bigger picture & to clarify the 2.4 vs 5 GHz issue

As far as I know, none of the Kobo eink devices are 5GHz capable. At home, the Aura HD and Aura only show the 2.4GHz SSID for our wireless network. OTOH, the N connection to the router is quite a bit faster than my Internet connection and for the relatively small amount of data I move over the internal network, the speed is more than adequate.

Regards,
David
