Ultimate deals: Books from the MR library sold elsewhere
Ever been looking for a way to spend a bit more cash? I mean, we're all rolling in it, you can only burn so many banknotes lighting your cigars - so why not spend some money on books you could get for free here at the Patricia Clark Memorial Library?
Castrovilli Giuseppe gives you this wonderful opportunity. For instance, you can spend €6.85 on my Heine edition. And it gets better: Not only will Castrovilli Giuseppe relieve you of the money burning a hole in your pocket - he will even throw in an uglified cover and put some DRM on top. It's an offer you can't refuse. I suggest other uploaders to the library check Castrovilli's offers of their uploads and advertise them here as well. There are dozens. You can also like your benefactor on Facebook. Last edited by doubleshuffle; 04-22-2014 at 06:45 AM. |

What a fantastic offer! My Joyce for only €6.99, my Woolf for more than adequate €14,95, Melville for €7,95, Conrad for €5,95, and a lot more. I’m impressed by all the time and effort he must have invested in making his editions a unique experience. Why not revel in the apps he made of them, too? I’m sure it took him more than two minutes to transform the epubs! And I love the secret charm he gave to his new, imaginative, not at all generic covers. I even think about buying these editions myself! Because buying stuff is so much more satisfying than producing it.
Overwhelming! My heart is filled with nothing but love right now. EDIT: Here are some more: Musil, Benjamin, Hardy, Carroll, Freud, Hoffmann, Jean Paul, Lessing, Nietzsche Last edited by pynch; 04-22-2014 at 06:33 AM. |

A great day for repenting sinners, isn't it.
Hey mods: Could someone please change the thread title to the title I just changed the first post into? Would be a great idea to have a thread to point out all those great offers from other "publishers" as well. I can greatly recommend e-artnow, for instance. They've got a Kindle version of my Heine for a whopping €1.99. Not worth it, really, barely leaves a dent in our wallets... |

Call me thick, but has someone copied your versions of the public domain ebooks you've formatted and given to the MR library and sold them on to publishers or directly to ebook retailers?
And is one of the 'thieves' Castrov? Just curious - are you able to prove that they're the version you formatted? I think this thread should be in the News section. Last edited by Lynx-lynx; 04-22-2014 at 04:42 PM. |

Quote:
2) Castrovilli Giuseppe (castrov) is not the only one, but a very blatant example, not least because he demands premium prices, probably expecting customers looking for quality to prefer his ripoffs over those of others. But ... he hurried here to apologise after someone posted a link to this thread on his Facebook profile. 3) It's very easy to get a sample at Kobo and see that the formatting (including some telling decorative elements) is identical. And Castrovilli's readiness to apologize and delete all books mentioned here from Kobo is telling enough, innit? (I can only recommend other uploaders to go through his offers on Kobo. There's a lot of stuff that I'm pretty sure is from here.) 4) I think this thread is right where it belongs so MR uploaders can always advertise those great opportunities. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 04-23-2014 at 01:08 PM. Reason: Mr. Giuseppe's religious affiliation is of no concern here. |

There are words for this practice, and I'm sure we all know them.
Despite the apology, is the offender still a member of the Forum ? And well done doubleshuffle on exposing the scam. |

I've thought this before -- perhaps the MR library should be offered on Amazon/Kobo/etc., with MR listed as one of the authors, for free? With a suitable blurb about the MR library and everything.
![]() ![]() My thinking was so the books here could be directly integrated into, say, my Amazon Kindle library. Giving the advantage of Whispersync, public highlights, and direct access through the Kindle Store and Cloud rather than always having to go through mobileread.com which is kind of awkward on an e-ink browser. Also people with the 3G version could access the MR uploads from anywhere. |

Sorry
First of all I'm sorry, I I My versions of books with Sigil and Calibre. Texts take them Where is it written that I'm in the public domain and I My Almost Perfectly Formatted versions of the books. I am also the author of My Own Books and What It means to understand How It Write A Private Opera, not Paste and Copy But 4 Months Work.
The Copy and Paste of Works in the Public Domain Do All People. Even Take The Other Texts of Works in the Public Domain from other websites. It would comfortably accommodates Who wants to protect their Own Literary Opera The Place Copyright © or Licence, So it is clear that People can Not copy. Public Domain Opera Belong to Everyone Want. Everyone Can Make Complete Works of Public Domain Authors, edit Text, A Own Literary Opera transformed (don't Forget to Put Copyright © ), and Anything, Just Because Belongs To Public Domain. The texts are in the public domain, and yes, you are free to take them from any source you like, format them and sell them if you wish to. But it is very bad style to take books others have worked countless hours on - transcribing them, correcting OCRed scans (or even, as I know of many of pynch's books, scanning them themselves), and then formatting them - and sell them with all the formatting intact, without any hint on the source. It might be legal, but it's still a very unpleasant rip-off.
I'm not good on the legal stuff: perhaps somenehere can enlighten me what kind of License statement I could put in a book to make copying it wholesale illegal. Is there something like that? Last edited by poohbear_nc; 04-23-2014 at 01:41 PM. |

Hello and excuse me again,
The Source Of Works in principle is The Author Himself, That He or She or They Who wrote ( All The Rest is Copy and Paste ). Castrovilli Giuseppe Last edited by castrov; 04-23-2014 at 02:46 AM. |

You know damn well that there is a lot more than copy and paste to the books you copy and paste from here. You go for quality in your rip-offs, and you know it when you see it: it clearly shows in your prices.
You can definitely copy the text all that you like. I'm not so sure about the formatting though. So how do you feel when someone puts 15 euros in your pocket for the Virginia Woolf edition that pynch has been working on tirelessly for years? Do you confess it as a sin, or do you put on your broadest grin and thank God for those clueless idiots who line your pockets? |
