Troubleshooting Frozen Kindle Paperwhite 3G version UK

Had a panicked call from my mum last night, her Kindle Paperwhite 3G version has completely frozen by the sound of it. She gets stuck on the screen saver picture. She has tried switching it all the way off to the blank screen, and on again, but cannot get past the screensaver page. She can't get the 'little man under a tree' as she refers to the complete reset either.

I'm going to let her have one of my old KK 3Gs to tide her over and have a look at it, but she had a similar problem with her old KK 3G as well, random switching off and resetting.

Other than having the PW wireless only version, I have not had (cross fingers) any problems with either my old KK or the PW. Mum's never even leaves the house, is charged regularly, though is possibly read for longer as she is 70 and retired living on her own now.

On one of my previous Kindles or some tablets, there was a 'hard' reset that involves pressing two buttons at the same time, rather than the soft reset of just holding the power button down. Is there an equivalent for the Paperwhite?
