CC: error 500?
I don't know what I am doing wrong, but no matter what I do I can't get my CC to work. I have followed the step by step and nothing kept trying till I got the following message:
Cannot connect to server: Server refused request:error 500 Will someone please help me get my CC working. I am about to go on a road trip and need it functional. |

Did you send us a debug log yesterday? I think so, because the name in the 'from' is similar to LadyLori. Normally, Steve (my son and partner) handles "out of the sky" debug logs on business days. But now that you have found me here ...
![]() First question: what program/app is giving you the "Cannot connect to server: Server refused request:error 500" message? I ask because the debug log I have does not show that message being generated. Looking at the log, it is almost certainly "security software" on your computer is blocking connections. CC can find the computer, but calibre cannot answer any network requests. You don't say what kind of computer is running calibre and what OS it is running, but under the assumption that it is windows:

Thinking further: if it is CC that is producing that message then the debug log I have is not showing the current problem. If this is the case, could you send me another CC debug log, and also a calibre debug log? You can get instructions for how to make a calibre debug log at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...7&postcount=10. Send the debug log to cc_debug_logs at charles dot haleys dot org, the same address that you see when you send a CC debug log.

Another thing I found in the debug log I have: both the content server and the wireless device connection are using the same port (9090). This will guarantee undesired results. I suggest that you use 8080 for the content server and 9090 for the wireless device connection, or at minimum different ports for the two.

Resolution: after a lot of back & forth by email & skype, we found two things:
1) The calibre installation was somehow corrupted. Fixed by uninstalling calibre, deleting the calibre folders, and reinstalling. At this point the content server test worked. 2) Turned off McAfee. CC could connect. After fighting a bit we found that the local network was marked as "untrusted" in McAfee. Changed it to trusted and CC could connect via both wireless device and content server. Thank you, LadyLori, for your patience. As you said, we both learned something. ![]() |
