Problems when typing accents
Hello. I've been having this issue in Calibre 1.30. My current OS is Ubuntu 12.10.
I can't type any accents when I'm trying to manage my library or find something... 'Til now I've just been ignoring it, but it has become quite annoying lately. I have no idea why this happens, Calibre is the only program which refuses to let me use accents. (like "não, ênfase, áspero"). The weird thing is, whenever I copy and paste the word into the program it accepts them normally. Even when I config the system language to Portuguese, the program is perfectly spelled and accented. Does any of you guys know what to do? ![]() |

@marceloindig - are you referring to the naming of the library folders & files ?
If so then that's because some of the operating/file systems that calibre runs on only permit USASCII characters in file and folder names - so author and book folder names and book format file names, within a calibre library, are limited to those characters. However, ff you save a book, and if the target operating/file systems supports non-USASCII folder and file names, then what you have in the book metadata will be what you see in the saved folder and file names If its something else, perhaps you could be more specific BR Last edited by BetterRed; 04-01-2014 at 12:25 AM. |

Yes, that's what I'm saying. But the curious thing is, I have Calibre installed in another computer at work, and in this one, I can type any character with accents with no problems at all. It only happens on my own computer.
Do you think Ubuntu may have something to do with this? |

Not Ubuntu, more likely the filesystem.
When you save to disk, then I assume that you can save using accents? You shouldn't care about what is used inside the calibre library, use the GUI instead. Last edited by Adoby; 04-02-2014 at 05:25 PM. Reason: Should to Shouldn't |

However, read I wrote here https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=10 Obviously the issue is not as severe for Portuguese as it for for Arabic, Korean etc, but nevertheless it's still a real issue. And that issue is that you do not have to go to the file manager to see the transliterated folder and file names... you will see them in the desktop editors and readers you use. BR |

No matter which computer you use calibre's filenames and folders inside of calibre's library will not have any accents. However if you use the Save to Disk feature to export books outside of calibre's library you have the option of saving the books with accents in the filenames, see attached. |

hi
I've the same problems I'm using v. 1.31 I,ve a tag named Attualità (with the last a accented) Part of the saving model to the reader has that tag so on my reader I've the folder Attualità (with accent) but that is a correction made by me the files go on a 4gb FAT sd micro as I can remember, always Calibre saves without accent in the path, even with the option you shown disabled (even from windows, I don't know from linux) on the other side, in some filenames of the library I've the & char this is only to understand obviously! I love this perfect program! ![]() Last edited by paolog; 04-04-2014 at 06:54 AM. |

It is not a problem it is a feature and will most likely not be changed anytime soon.

hi
thanks for the answer, you're right, my use of the term 'problem' was wrong. I understand that managing thousand of languages needs some compromise I'll stay in touch in case of future changes. ![]() |
