Can Paperwhite Kindle also read to you?

so that you could listen to your book if you are not able to read it?

I think the only remaining Kindle model still in production that offers audio capability is the Kindle DX. But the DX is very old technology now and is $199. I doubt they are still actually building them, most likely just selling off existing stock to get rid of them. If you can find a used Kindle Touch or a Kindle Keyboard, they both had audio capability. But they are no longer in production.

ETA: If you click on the list of retailers links in the linked pages above, the Touch is selling used from about $43 and the Keyboard is selling used from about $93.

Kindle Fire HDX 2013 offers text to speech on most eBooks. Tap the center of an eBook page and then tap the arrow in the lower left. One can choose from a multiple of voices both male and female.

The Kindle Fire HD 2012 does NOT offer this capability.

I don't own the Kindle Fire HD 2013 so cannot say if it offers it or not.

None of the Paperwhites offer it.

While we are at it, does anyone know if the Kindle App for Android on the new Samsung Galaxy S5 Smart Phone will offer text to speech?

I don't believe any of the Kindle apps offer text to speech.

Both the iOS and Android apps support 'accessibility' features, including text readout. You do have to learn just enough about the extended gestures to be able to control it, but I use this on my iPod Touch a fair bit and it is pretty workable.

No, but you can still find the Kindle Touch new and refurbished from time to time. Currently Best Buy has the Kindle Touch 3G (new, with special offers) for $140. (At least they advertise it as new, you might want to confirm that it's not refurbished.)

Amazon is currently advertising both refurbished WiFi and 3G models, at $79 and $129 respectively (both models with Special Offers). The ad "says" that they come with 1 year warranties, but I would check to be sure.

Amazon advertises used WiFi and 3G models ranging from $45 to $80. They show a 1 year warranty, but I think that just may be the blurb for the new Touches, now that I realize these machines are sold by individuals, not Amazon. Same may go for the refurbished one, I don't know.

So Kindle Touch does have the reading capabilities? Does it also have buttons? I think I like the button ones because then I could flip the pages outside with my gloves on perhaps when it's cold? I want a Kindle that you can read in cold weather outside, I wait for the bus a lot and waste a lot of time that way.

No you would have to go with the DX (big screen) or Keyboard if you wanted buttons and reading capabilities.

You don't need your gloves off to change pages with the Kindle Touch, I think its infrared.

You mean it doesn't depend on heat of the finger to change pages?
