How to Modify large Images without conversion

I don't know if it's the right place to ask, but of all the plugins, this is the one I think this would fit best in, unless there was a completely new plugin designed for it.

I've gotten ahold of several epubs lately that have all images were in png or bmp format. Bringing the size of the book to well over 100mb. I know that converting the books to mobi and then back to epub (usually) will fix the png's and convert everything to jpg. This did work and generally brought the book to a much better size (~10-20mb). However, after searching the internet and the forums, I cannot find any other way to do this other than manually. If there's another way and someone knows of it, I'd appreciate it. I ran across a single thread about an android program that's supposed to do it, but I'm looking for something in windows.

Could this be something added to this Quality Check plugin - if it's not too difficult? It's not really quality check, but some of the 'options' in your plugin don't really fall into the category either, and it is sort of 'cleaning' the book up (in size).

Anyway, I appreciate the consideration of this, even though it's not likely to be added, but better to ask than to never know.

Does the QC PI ever alter a format file? I've not used every option, but the ones I have used require me to rectify 'what's wrong'.

I think something like convert all images to jpgs, with 80% compression and resize to fit configured device (unless otherwise specified), is doable with ImageMagcik, which is a component of the calibre package. Maybe it would be best done within Polish Books or the Modify PI.

For the most part QC: Scans files, changes LIBRARY metadata, and in one case cleans the reader of orphan metadata files (book is now gone)

QC results can be used to bulk set Tags

Other PI work on selected files (tags are useful in retrieving and selecting)

Originally I had intended this for the Modify epub Plugin, not quality check. I guess I had both threads open at the same time and posted in the wrong one. I apologize. If I had seen it I would have fixed it if possible. I got sent out of town for my job and hadn't thought to check back in until I got the email update about the thread.

Again, sorry.

What I had to say though is still valid. And is meant for the modify epub, or perhaps a new plug.
