Discrimination?

Why are Chinese Iliad users denied access to dev kit? Is there any other region in which Iliad users receive 'special treatment' of being denied of any right to use third party softwares?

Chinese iLiads connect to a different server that is (as far as I know), not managed directly by iRex. I think that Chinese iLiad's are sold by iRex to another company, much like the eFlyBook.

After a chinese iliad is "unbricked" by the default unbrick image, shouldn't it become then an western one?

Maybe, but you need the developer's pack to unbrick your device...

Plus you have to connect your iLiad to iRex' ids before you can download the image in your profile on the irex site.

[EDIT] What firmware is installed on Chinese iLiads? You need >2.10.2 for reflashing.
Where do you get firmware updates for Chinese iLiads?

Would it be possible to change that by changing the setting in the registry.xml, in the user profile setting? This is what I have in mine:
Code:
 <redirectUrl>https://ids.irexnet.com:443/redirector</redirectUrl>
But perhaps registration/authentication/access would still be a problem.

Edit: Duh! Shell access is needed first to get to the registry. Forget this.

But iRex said the Chinese company was their "official branch" !!!

Code:
Dear customer,

The Chinese website http://www.irexreader.cn is our official branch in
China.

Kind regards,
The iRex Team
What does that mean???

and according to the local support team, they have so far been "repeatedly" asking the iRex "headquarters" to grant third party access right to Chinese customers but their requests have so far all been denied. The Chinese customers have been tired of asking and waiting for all those months. Yet still not even an explanation was given... ...

The firmware version is 2.12 and we get firmware update from iRex ids, pressing the little round button in the righthand corner. (though i don't know whether the update server is located in China or overseas.)

I just want an explanation why can't grant Chinese users shell access right? Is it technical or what? Can I switch btw western version and chinese version since currently all the books I read on iliad are English?
