How do I link customers to my new ebook?
Hi Folks,
I know this is really basic, but I just started using Calibre. I want to put my ebook on my website for people to download. However, with a .mobi format, for example, I've got FOUR files in the folder: .jpg (cover, .pdf, opf, and .mobi. So how do I get this ebook into the hands of my readers? Which file do I link them to? Thanks! Bob |

Generally: Opening your PC to any outside (WAN) access is strongly discouraged. Not everyone out there has YOUR best interests at heart.
If you insist on serving your own books, consider using the e-commerce services that the (IMHO) better ISP's offer. It may not be free, but a well run service will manage the modern security needs, offer payment processing. If you do it yourself: you need a DMZ with a PC(server) to solidly separate your work (the one you use to WRITE) network from the customer. |

In case you have no clue what the abbreviations mean:
Code:
DMZ or Demilitarized Zone (sometimes referred to as a perimeter network) is a physical or logical subnetwork that contains and exposes an organization's external-facing services to a larger and untrusted network, usually the Internet. The purpose of a DMZ is to add an additional layer of security to an organization's local area network (LAN); an external attacker only has direct access to equipment in the DMZ, rather than any other part of the network. The name is derived from the term "demilitarized zone", an area between nation states in which military operation is not permitted. (Source Wikipedia) Otherwise theducks provides sound advice.
