Want to Buy Ebook Reader

Hello Friends and Respected Members of the Forum,

Myself Johny. I am from Delhi. I am new to ebook readers usage. Till now i have been reading the book or ebooks on my laptop, sony xperia z1 mobile phone or pc through an ebook reader. Now thinking to go for a new ebook reader so that i can read my favourite books anywhere anytime. I would like to request the experienced members to suggest me the best book reader.

1. I don't have issues with money but i want the best in the series.
2. Most probably 10" reader with SD Card, Number of formats it can read.
3. Readable dislpaly with iink technology and are there any full HD Display e-readers available ?
4. Other custom built in features.
5. Will also be focusing on the OS, usability, battery duration and capability of zoom levels.

I would humbly request if someone can help me in choosing the ebook reader and from where i can buy it. I am based in Delhi, India. I would be heartly thankful to you guys. Please help me as i am totally new to this topic. I need some genuine help on this. Waiting for your response on this.

Thanks and Lots of Regards
Johny

If you want a 10" screen your options are very limited. You should be looking at perhaps the Pocketbook 922 or the Onyx equivalent. 10" eInk screens really haven't caught on - the market has basically been overtaken by LCD tablets. There's a MUCH wider choice in 6" readers, which are ideal for reading fiction.

Thanks a lot Harry for such prompt help and response but i have alot of pdf files as well. I am a very avid reader. I generally read all genres for pdf i want to buy 10" specially so that i can view their A4 size properly and can read easily. As far as 6" is concerned my z1 is big enough equivalent to any 6" ereader. So that's what the issue is. I saw kobo Aura HD 8.9" what are your views about that ? Please help.

You will get the best A4 PDF reading experience from an iPad, hands down. An Aura may be adequate for you, or it may not - it depends whether the reading experience itself takes second fiddle to your battery life and e-ink preferences.

Thanks Meeera. But what about other formats like epub, mobi, chm, html, pdf is just one of them. So would be looking for a universal format ebook reader if you can suggest a decent option for all in one i would be more than happy....

There are no "universal ebook readers" as such, that I'm aware of. A tablet would be the closest, because you can install a whole variety of reading apps on it.

However, formats are much less of an issue than you might think: because the majority of ebook formats (with the exception of PDF) will easily convert to epub or mobi/azw3 with the use of Calibre.

The only one of those I've used is the Aura HD, I don't own any of them, and I'll only read PDFs on my iPad, so I'm not the person to ask that question of.

The iPad (or an equivalent Android tablet) is the clear winner for reading PDFs. eInk devices have slow CPUs which are really not up to the task.

So Harry you are suggesting to go for a tablet rather than a ebook reader. I need something for pure reading nothing else than that. Among 6" which ones you suggest and why please elaborate.

I'm suggesting that a 10" tablet is the clear winner for reading PDFs. For fiction, I'd recommend a 6" eInk reader, of which my personal favourite is the Kindle Paperwhite. There is no one device which is best for all tasks.

Harry if we leave pdf files then, what else, apart from kindle paperwhite, we can opt for ? because kindle does not have a sd card slot. Also, if compared with kobo aura hd features can we say kobo's features are at par with kindle. Which one you suggest among both kindle paperwhite and kobo aura hd ? please let me know about that.

Why do you need an SD card slot? Do you honestly have a pressing need to carry more than 1000 books around with you?

I'm afraid I can't offer any views on the Kobo. I don't know anything about it. But I can say that Amazon have the best bookstore and the best customer service, by far.
