Kobo Glo - syncing issues!!
Hi,
I have many books that I uploaded using Adobe Digital Editions let's say about 17 I have added. It died in the morning so when I go to work I charged it up and turned it back on and noticed my books were gone so I linked it to my work wifi and synced it and this where the trouble begins...it only upload the books that I uploaded the previous time in early Feb. The 17 books did not sync...so I hooked it up with a usb. The books are there, so I unplugged it and the 17 books are added again. But I lost all my saved bookmarks. This happens whenever my battery dies and when I add new books. Is there something I can do to make my kobo stop deleting my books? I sync it every night and it usually is "completed". If I turn it off and turn it back on it seems to be fine. so i'm not sure why it happens when I add books in Adobe Digital Edition or when it dies and I charge it up with no wifi. Any advice will be appreciated! |

I can answer a small part of your question. Books that are loaded via ADE ARE NOT synced, nor is any information associated with them synced to the Kobo server. That's why you're not getting the bookmarks back when you sync after restoring the books.
I'll let others more knowledgable than myself comment on the ADE part and why you're losing the books in the 1st place. |

For example: First time i plugged it in I added perks of a wallflower. Second time I plug it in I add Ender's game Third time I plug it in I add The fault in our stars and 1984. Then the times afterwards I would plug in and add more books and unplug it, it would be as if I never added The fault in our stars and 1984. It would still say I finished reading perks of a wallflower and Ender's game. |

With that description, the database on the device is probably corrupted. When that happens, the device appears to be running OK, but any changes are not written to the database correctly. A restart of the device will do a reread of the database. This will read the corrupt database that doesn't have any recent changes including any added books.
I don't know how the database became corrupted. But, running out of power could be a cause. If the device didn't get a chance to complete writing to the database before it lost power, that would explain it. It would probably depend on exactly what was being done at the time whether this happened. You can check the database for errors using any SQLite viewer. If you use calibre, my Kobo Utilities plugin has a database check function. But, I would expect that calibre would display an error while trying to get the book list from the device. If I am correct, the fix is to do a logout on the device and log back in. This takes you through a basic setup which includes removes the current database and creating a fresh one. Then a sync is done to Kobo, to fetch details of the purchased books and any sideloaded books on the device are added. |
