Firmware 3.2.0 halted? Not really, just slow roll out.
Can any advise if the rumour that the current new firmware has been halted due to various issues?
regards Jack so looks like the the two touches We have received the update today and looks like the Aura HD updated as well. Last edited by jackastor; 02-25-2014 at 04:46 PM. |

Jack; the last word we saw (late last week) was that the deployment was ramping up this coming week.

if you DONT want your firmware wirelessly updated, is it necessary to completely turn off sync on device, or are you offered an upgrade Y/N choice before anything happens ?

The short answer: Yes, you have to turn off syncing.
The long answer: See https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=234211 for a detailed discussion of this. |

thanks - what a crap design thouigh
even microsoft windows update gives you a choice ![]() and what does a forced FW upgrade do to your non-kobo-store books , do you loose books / current page..... PS actually that's worse than stupid - you could be travelling + reading on an almost flat battery - then daily sync kicks in because you forget to turn it off. your Kobo goes into firmware upgrade install but does not have enough juice to compete - > potentially bricked ? ( I don't suppose it is smart enough to check its own charge status before it begins all that ? ) Last edited by cybmole; 02-24-2014 at 08:09 AM. |

Unless an update is specifically changing these things, an update shouldn't affect the books. 3.2.0 doesn't do anything like that.

If the battery is below a certain % the update does NOT happen
Of course a VERY easy means to prevent updates is just to make sure the internal storage is close to full, so there is not enough space to download and install the update. (Say leave somewhere on the order of 80 to 100 meg free on the device). |

I *do* keep mine on and frankly I *don't* see an effect on the battery.

Frankly, it would be nice if Kobo reconsidered their firmware upgrade policy in terms of asking the user if they want the upgrade at this time or just a sync as requested. I realize that in theory having all devices upgraded to the latest firmware makes troubleshooting easier for Kobo, but until they get out of the release and then release again almost immediately cycle maybe give the customer a break.
I can also easily envision circumstances where one might be amenable to buying & downloading a book, but not want to download something the size of a firmware upgrade if on a mobile hotspot or the like where the cost of data might be at a premium, or where one may be approaching a data limit. Further, forcing firmware upgrades is not the established practice with most hardware, so why be difficult about it and cause user's additional stress? This can only lead to dissatisfied customers, especially when firmwares are not always fully functional, or accidentally break some things while fixing others, or reintroduce past bugs. Give the user the final choice, with firmware as with software options, it is the user's device, not on loan or lease from the company. |

I just received the update on a Glo and checked the download links for other versions. I've posted the results in the Firmware Links thread.
