One library 2 PC's

Just to make sure I'm doing this right:

I bought a new laptop, and I copied my library from my old PC to the new one. The old laptop is still being used so I want to have them sync whenever I add books etc.

I got the library on the new PC setup the exact way I wanted it, cleaned up a lot etc.

So in order to get them to sync up and have the books the same between the two, with the cleaned up library, I deleted the library in the dropbox folder, and moved the library on the new PC to the dropbox folder. That SHOULD sync them up right?

When I go to the old PC, the new stuff will be there when I open Calibre.

Just make sure Dropbox only knows of one calibre library, and that it is the one you want. That is what really matters and as long as you do this, it will work as you expect.

And let me take this opportunity to provide a general Dropbox+calibre warning: Do not, under any circumstances, open a calibre library on two synced computers at the same time. Always make sure the library has been completely synced, before AND after you use calibre on either computer, and then stop Dropbox while calibre is open!

You do not want to accidentally edit the same books twice and end up with two conflicting copies, neither of which calibre knows about. Make sure all your edits are saved in Dropbox before editing on another computer. (And yes, even opening calibre will edit the database itself.)

(I'm not saying you don't know this already, but better safe than sorry, and many people make this mistake.)

Perfect! Thanks so much!

And right about the not opening Calibre on two PC's until they're completely sync'd up....will make sure not to do that, but usually only on PC is on at a time.

Just a question. If your main library is in a remote spot like dropbox, where do you keep your backup and how often do you backup?

Just clarifying.

Never run 2 Calibres at the same time (on the same Library).

Ever!

And Yes! Synch must complete before Switching to the other computer otherwise the DB does not match the book files.

I back up my Calibre library from dropbox once per month onto an external HDD (and if I can be bothered, also a USB flash drive).
