Moving on from Nook. Would like input, please?
Hi all.
I have a Nook Simple Touch. I've had it for a year, and due to some recent hardware difficulties, it's time to move on. MicroSD cards no longer work on it, and considering the amount of books I have, that's a deal-breaker. I've read around and it seems quite a few people are experiencing this issue. I'd like to buy a new Nook Glowlight, but without expandable storage, I can't buy it. It's a shame because so far the Nook has done a fantastic job of doing what I want. It's easy to use and I've never had formatting issues when reading my books. I'd like to hear some suggestions of what ereader I should try next. Here are my criteria: 1. Must be e-ink. 2. Must have expandable storage. 3. Must read epubs (all high quality) without any formatting, spacing, or paragraph errors. 4. I use Calibre to organize my books (from various online sellers) and move them manually to my ereader. 5. I'd like to buy the most "current" model, as so far both Nooks I've owned have been a generation out of date when I bought them. And both have had issues with the SD card over time. I currently have my eye on the Kobo Aura. I'm not interested in the HD version. However, I've read about issues with indenting and text formatting that are making me unsure. I'd love to hear suggestions. |

What exact concerns do you have? Kobo will respect the paragraph spacing, margins, and indent formatting in your epubs. Assuming they're DRM-free, you can configure your own epubs to display however you like with regards to these issues.

I'm worried about the appearance on the screen. I've read some reviews/complaints that say that some epubs (I don't have any kepubs) don't display correctly. Examples are removed indenting, or a long paragraph that gets moved to the next page, leaving a large space at the bottom of the screen. Those sorts of things really bug me and it's one reason I like my Nook. Everything looks flawless. If the newest Nook had expandable storage, I'd be buying that one in a heartbeat.
My epubs are all DRM free, though they've been purchased from a variety of online stores. |

Just buy another nook.
People who love their Sony units are buying extra readers to have during the coming dry spell, so having an extra (working) nook will allow you to keep reading on one that you enjoy. |

I sympathise with you being picky about how things display - I'm very fussy about fonts, and I also couldn't stand it when Kobo suddenly brought in a book title header on every page on sideloaded epubs. Luckily, they rethought that in the next firmware version (perhaps in response to customer complaints), and meanwhile a downgrade was easy. |

I do it the rough & ready way, with conversion presets in Calibre (tweak margins, remove paragraph spacing, force paragraph indent, set minimum line height to 110%, remove fonts/margins/colours from styles) - and then just bulk conversion. There are finesse-ier ways, for those who prefer them!
