Kindle for PC asking to upgrade

When I booted up my Kindle for PC just now, it's asked me to upgrade real soon as the current version is about to expire.

So what's in this new version? Will it be something to do with beefing up the drm? I don't buy ebooks that I can't Alf and back up. Will it be the end of my beautiful relationship with Amazon?

I got that as well but there was no new version on the website, quite annoying. I hope this is a prelude to an update to k4p that allows it to use the same Cloud Collections as other devices. Yes I know I really hate the annoying CCs but k4pc is where I keep all my collections maintained so it would be nice if I could go back to using that program instead of draining my battery on my pw2.

Yes, I'm seeing this too. The same thing happened in mid 2012. The warning message came up, and then after a couple of weeks the old version stopped working. So you were forced to upgrade, regardless of whether there were any actual benefits in doing so.

I hate this sort of thing. It should be entirely my decision as to whether I want to upgrade to a new version, and when to do so. Also, I think the way that Amazon handles it is pathetic. If you don't load the program during the warning period, you've got no way of knowing that it is about to expire. If you then try to load it after the warning period, nothing happens: there's no message, and no way of knowing what's going on. The program simply refuses to load.

As a software developer myself, I would be ashamed to issue software that works in such a hostile way.

Last time they did this, if I recall correctly, there was a deadline date in the notification. I wish they would have done the same this time.

Got the same notification, and updated to the latest (downloaded it like 30 seconds ago), but the version is still 1.10.6.

I must say that I forgot to look at the build number in the parenthesis. The one I have now is (40500).

I downloaded it also and got 1.10.6 (40500) which is exactly the same as my present version so I did not "upgrade."

It appears Amazon has not yet placed the new version at their site.

The version as it is on the site at this point in time, seems the same one as the version I've had installed for a long time now. I just tested Alf's plugin, and it doesn't break. If there is new version for real (with a different version number), we'll need to test again.

OK, so it may be a bugfix upgrade. I don't know what build number I had before 40500. However, Alf (still) works with 40500, so no problems there.

So... Version 1.10.1 build 40262 before. Version 1.10.6 build 40500 after. And yes everything seems to still work.

In that case, I didn't upgrade.

Your version was 1.10.1, mine already was 1.10.6 before I installed the newest.

This is not new, I have been on this version for a bit.
