It kind of depressing, isn't it? I haven't found anything to "replace" it with yet. I started feeling like rereading the whole series when I was talking about it last week though.

I'm re-reading Wheel of Time at the moment. I never did get to the last 3 books. Nothing could ever replace it, really, it still qualifies as my favorite fantasy series.
My other favorite is Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth. I also recommend Michael J. Sullivan's Riyria Revelation series. Start with Theft of Swords. Also, anything by Brandon Sanderson. His Mistborn trilogy is very good! |

I really enjoyed the Wheel of Time but haven't gone out looking for the next WoT either.
Recently, for epic fantasy, I recommend Brandon Sanderson's work (found him through WoT anyway, haha) and Robin Hobb's work as well. |

drawing to a close? I thought the last book came out a year ago.
I'm not really looking for similar books, or knock offs, if that's what you mean. I just look for good quality fantasy books. |

Yes, it's finally finished. I only started reading the Wheel of Time a few years ago because it was nearing the end. I don't like to start a book series if I know the end isn't coming for a while (trilogies aren't so bad). Honor Harrington only kind of counts because i don't know if it will ever end, haha.
That is why, although I really like Sanderson, I haven't read The Way of Kings yet. Book 2 of a projected 10 comes out in March. By the time book 10 is here, I will have forgotten everthing in the early books. I will read the series when book 7 or 8 is out ![]() |

Ok, I'm wrong. No one is perfect. When Jordan's death was announced I got depressed.

I'm not a huge WoT fan, I stopped around book 5 years ago and plan on giving it another shot. However Sanderson's The Way of Kings is excellent as is Brent Weeks' Lightbringer trilogy (whose last installment comes out this summer).

I finally finished the series last month. I started back in 1990 but took a long break after book 10, though. I started re-reading from book 1 as the last book was published.
Took me a year, even with the cheat of alternating between audio book and ebook. Loved the way it ended but so much of it was tough to get through as far as bad writing sometimes. I'm taking a break from series fiction though. So just finished The Golem and the Jinni and loved it, now starting Mark Helprin's Winter's Tale. My next series though may be from Robin Hobb. |

The big problem with the WOT, IMPO, was the author was married to the editor which basically meant that he didn't have an editor. There were whole books where the plot line was never advanced. IMPO, the first book was one of the best fantasy books I've read and the second one was almost as good, but then it started drifting off in long side stories that could have/should have been cut. The last three books were actually pretty tight and well edited, but by then, there were so many loose threads that had to be tied up, that it took three books to bring it all back together.
