Missing Characters in Editor-GUI
Hi Kovid,
I have an interesting behavior of the Editor-GUI in combination with a EPUB for testing sub- and superscript capabilities of fonts. All used fonts in the EPUB are embedded and subsetted (please see attached EPUB). If you open this file with the editor, you will see missing characters in the file browser for nearly all files. Same, if you highlight a text (see picture) and go then to menu search -> Find Replace . Some of the menu entries have as well missing characters. It looks like the included subsetted fonts in the EPUB are altering the font of the Editor-GUI. This happen only with this test file and I did not saw this behavior anytime before. |

Yes, this is a limitation of Qt. In order to make embedded fonts work in the preview panel, they have to be made available to the entire application, and there is no way to tell Qt not to use the embedded version of the fonts for the GUI.
You can change the GUI font in the main calibre preferences->look & feel which will allow you to work around this limitation. |

This is suitable work around. I was looking for an other GUI font of the Editor first and forgot looking at the main program. My GUI was set up to Arial Unicode, one of the included fonts in the EPUB.
Learning by doing. Thanks for the tip. ![]() PS: This is maybe a good hint for the Editor-FAQ Last edited by Divingduck; 02-20-2014 at 01:33 AM. |
